Bloodthistle
- Bloodthistle
- Use: Increases spell power by a small amount for 10 minutes.
- Races: Blood Elf
- Sell Price: 30
Bloodthistle is an herb native to Eversong Woods. It grows in and around areas of blood elf magical activity (i.e. near buildings). It can only be used by blood elves to get a +10 to their spell power. No other races are able to consume the herb. The buff stacks with all other buffs. When the buff expires, the character is afflicted with Bloodthistle Withdrawl, reducing their Intellect. The debuff is removed if more bloodthistle is consumed renewing the buff and delaying the withdrawal. It can also be removed by immunities like a mage's [Ice Block] or a paladin's [Divine Shield].
A frequent consumer of bloodthistle is called a "thistlehead", and looked down upon by common blood elf society.[1] Selling bloodthistle seems also to have been outlawed in several places, such as Shattrath City.[2] According to the Illidari blood elves, Eclipse Point is full of thistleheads.[3]
Due to the fact that Bloodthistle is not used in any trade skill recipes, a budding herbalist can find Bloodthistle to be a good source of early income compared to other herbs of its level ( [Peacebloom] and [Silverleaf] only sell for 10 a piece) because it is found in great quantities in the Eversong Woods and vendors for 30 a piece (6 for a full bundle of 20).
Notes
- Usually, the best places to find Bloodthistle throughout Eversong Woods is near the Sanctums.
- Non-herbalists can obtain [Bloodthistle Petal], a similar item, for free by completing the quest [1-30] The Party Never Ends, carrying the quest reward item [Saltheril's Haven Party Invitation] in their bag, and attending Lord Saltheril's party at Saltheril's Haven; Bloodthistle Petals can be looted from platters on the tables at the party.
- In the original incarnation of Lor'themar Theron's leader short story, Ranger General Halduron Brightwing was described as being a bloodthistle user, though unlike the more shameless antics of Envoy Icarius, Halduron seemed to use it in a slightly more practiced and elegant manner - and privately.[4]
- Bloodthistle is one of the very few herbs that cannot be used by scribes for [Milling].
