Adelgonn is the Stoneward of Dornogal. She served as the head and representative of the Stonebound in the Council of Dornogal. Following the creation of the Unbound, she eventually renounced her title and the Edicts and left the city to join them, becoming their leader. However, after recent events, the Unbound were welcomed back into Dornogal, and Adelgonn became the Stoneward once more.
History
Adelgonn was one of the four wards uplifted by the Titans to uphold the Edicts and oversee the construction of the Coreway and its fortress, Dornogal.[1] As the Stoneward, she led the Stonebound, the largest workforce of earthen units on the surface levels of Sector AR-938. Under her command, they were responsible for building and maintaining the foundational structures of Dornogal and the Coreway.[2] She and Baelgrim, the Stormward, were rivals, having become wards at the same time. They frequently measured their accomplishments against each other.[3] As centuries passed, the Titans remained silent and her people sought more from life. Many abandoned their edicts and left Dornogal for the wolds, becoming the Unbound. Adelgonn supported their decision and likewise renounced her duty as Stoneward. However, Stormward Baelgrim was furious, especially with Adelgonn, and revoked the protection of his Stormriders, leaving them to fend for themselves against the perils of the Isle of Dorn.[4]
Despite abandoning the Edicts, Adelgonn attempted to convince the Peacekeepers to allow her people back into the city. However, their unwavering devotion to the Edicts led them to refuse her entry, exiling the Unbound. As she spent time among the Unbound, she helped them build Freywold Village, while they, in turn, helped her discover a new sense of purpose. Over time, she began to question the beliefs of the earthen. They had started to forget details about the Keeper who once watched over them and even doubted the Titans' existence. She wondered why they had been ordered to build the Coreway and what purpose the Titans had for direct access to Azeroth's center. In her eyes, the earthen didn't need a Keeper, as they were capable of surviving on their own.[5]
When an Unbound quarry was overrun by fungarians, Adelgonn once again sought entry into Dornogal, this time to ask Baelgrim for aid. However, he refused to see her. Feeling betrayed, she was angered that Baelgrim had abandoned them, as she had once considered him a friend. In time, Adelgonn came to realize that her true passion was her people and the freedom they had built for themselves. She vowed to lead and protect them as she once did, not as the Stoneward, but as a friend.[5]
The War Within
When Dalaran teleported to Khaz Algar, Xal'atath and her nerubian army attacked the Isle of Dorn. Freywold Village was caught in the crossfire and many Unbound were injured without the Stormriders' protection. The Coreway was damaged during the attack, causing Councilward Merrix to send Baelgrim and outlanders to seek Adelgonn's aid in repairing it.[4] Adelgonn informed them that she had too many wounded and missing citizens to be able to help, however, if they saved her people, she would be in their debt. While Moira began treating the wounded, Brann Bronzebeard delved into the Earthcrawl Mines and rescued the abducted Unbound.[6] As they treated the injured earthen, Adelgonn reconciled with Baelgrim. She thanked him for his aid, while he apologized for failing to protect the Unbound.[7] With the Unbound safe, Adelgonn returned to her role as Stoneward and agreed to lend her people's aid in repairing the Coreway.[8]
The Unbound soon returned to Dornogal, where Merrix and Adelgonn began repairs to the Coreway, while Baelgrim went to rally the Stormriders. However, he was betrayed by Stormguard Gorren and found the Stormriders corrupted into Skardyn.[9][10] In the aftermath of Gorren's betrayal, the Stormriders were decimated and the city was left defenseless. They decided to lure the remaining nerubians to the Cinderbrew Meadery and detonate the cinderbrew to destroy them. Adelgonn convinced Wenbrandt of their plan after promising to repair the Meadery once they were finished.[11] After setting up the cinderbrew traps, they lured the nerubians into the Meadery. However, they could not reach the kegs to ignite them. Despite Adelgonn's protest, Baelgrim decided to sacrifice himself to light them and told her that she had to guide the earthen now.[12] While the others returned to Dornogal, Adelgonn stayed behind to mourn her friend and resolved to finish the repairs to the Coreway. Though they often argued, she knew Dornogal needed them both. If not for their stubbornness, she believed Baelgrim's fate could have been avoided.[3] When she returned to Dornogal, she informed Merrix of Baelgrim's sacrifice. They decided to honor his memory by reuniting the earthen. After finishing the last of the Coreway's repairs, Speaker Brinthe and the outlanders to ventured into the Ringing Deeps to bring back the Machine Speakers.[13]
Adelgonn later traveled to the Ringing Deeps to provide reinforcements for Brinthe after learning of High Speaker Eirich's betrayal.[14] She then informed Anduin Wrynn of the existence of the Arathi settlement in Hallowfall. While the earthen once had fruitful contact with them, the Unbound had no access to the Coreway and it was not in the Oathsworn's Edicts to aid another culture.[15]
Once the Horde and Alliance fleets arrived on the Isle of Dorn, Adelgonn worked with Turalyon and Geya'rah to train her people for the coming war against Xal'atath.[16] Later, Adelgonn and Merrix decided that in order to fully aid their new allies, the earthen would have to permanently forsake the Edicts. They gathered Oathsworn and Unbound alike and destroyed a titan console, ending their dedication to the Edicts. In response, a gigantic Titan construct awoke from the sea and moved inland to punish the earthen for their defiance. Lufsela and her new Stormriders took off to destroy the construct before it could hurt anyone.[17]
After Xal'atath was defeated in Hallowfall, Adelgonn and the rest of the Council of Dornogal thanked the outlanders for uniting the earthen again and helping them see that tradition can evolve and change.[18]
