Proper use of {{loot}}

I've seen a lot of instances of this:

{{loot|common|Rocknail Flayer Carcass}}es

The template supports disambig pages, use this instead:

{{loot|common|Rocknail Flayer Carcass|Rocknail Flayer Carcasses}}

As you can see, the latter looks much better...

Please... I'm sick of fixing these :) User:Tekkub/Sig 22:17, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Baseless speculation does not belong in the main article space on the wiki. If people want to fanfic away in their Userspace, they're welcome to. But not next to non-fictional articles. --k_d3 19:48, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: soundtrack links

ok, if you're sure. For some reason I was under the impression that you could provide links to material as long as you aren't actually hosting or profiting from the material. It's a fine line I know. However, I think music on the pages is a good idea for the sake of flavor/essence, but it seems like an awful lot of trouble to first edit the track to a proper length and then convert it to .ogg. Anyway thanks for the heads up. --Saranus

Suck-Up Time

I didn't know you were here, too, Kay. Well, I'd just like to say that despite the fact you tend to come off hostile on the official forums, your questionable "insider information" on things like upcoming patches and features is greatly appreciated by me, at least. I'd probably nominate you as a forum admin if I had any idea as to how to do so without looking like I'm sucking up. Thank you for attempting to keep some degree of sanity to a place otherwise devoid of reasonable intelligence. ~ Doc Lithius [U|T|C] 15:06, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

{{done}}

Heya, will be fixing {{done}} when I'm home. I just wanted to get the basic template off the ground for the moment. I copied it more or less directly from Wikipedia - it seems they're the ones with the wrong extension, if it's really a png. I will photoshop it into a gif, and shrink it down while I'm at it, so that all we have is what we need. I just assumed, obviously incorrectly, that the file would be good to go straight from the Wiki. Apparently not >.> Hekirou 18:32, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

No worries. --k_d3 18:34, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Help?

I seem to have continued problems. I fixed everything I could, but for some reason the transparency isn't picking up on the grey behind the check - instead, it's picking up a black color from somewhere. Did I do something wrong? I've never actually seem a transparency behave in that fashion before. Hekirou 13:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Speedydelete

I noticed you deleted the {{object}} template based merely on the fact that is was marked {{sd|<deprecated>}} by Pcj. Pcj is already starting to piss me off, but I figured I'd ask why you agreed with that assessment, since it seems to be a quite liberal usage of speedy delete. I could just undo it, but I'd like to explore the reasoning first. --Gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 9:54 PM PST 3 Dec 2003

Apparently i brought it's usage to pcj's attention on IRC while i was fixing a mistake you made on a page where it was used, and then pointing out pcj's tooltip.js wasn't working as it should with it. He took it upon himself to decide it shouldn't be supported and used in this way (which naturally, because i have the same opinion of pcj as you, i wasn't happy with), when really some input and consensus on your intended design for it should have been requested. As to it why kd3 deleted it without making note of that too, i don't know. :/ --   06:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Well in that case, I apologize. Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:object turned up no results so I figured it was safe to delete. Feel free to revert it if that was somehow incorrect.
Just as a general heads-up, I'm not currently actively online/paying attention to RC. Please ping me on IRC if something's directed at me. It'll take a few minutes but the packets will eventually get to me. X-cbat's about the only thing that'll get my attention when I'm watching stuff in bed. I'll be up for a few more hours. --k_d3 06:44, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Tooltips generated by {{object}} will not be supported by my JS. Objects are not linked in game and should not be linked here in that manner. In any case the content of {{object}} duplicated {{loot}}. If you didn't want to see {{object}} deleted, you should have replaced {{sd}} with the {{Delete}} tag per policy. --Pcj (TC) 06:35, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I'm not sure Fandyllic got the chance to, as the deletion came only 14 minutes after nomination.[1], which I think is Fandyllic's bigger issue. --Sky (talk | con | wh) 06:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, since he is an admin, if he wants to contest it, he can always restore it (which is actually an option for anyone to request an admin to do). But yeah, might want to have a bit more of a delay there. --Pcj (TC) 07:01, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Hmm, just looked at that link. My sig is in UTC, it shows 13:44 UTC for the tag time, and what (if I'm doing the math right) would be 21:58 UTC for the deletion time on 2 December. Still a bit short, but not 14 minutes. --Pcj (TC) 07:05, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Oido. But that is 8 hours, for a basically unused template. --Sky (talk | con | wh) 07:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I thought the idea was that {{sd}} was used where there was already a known decision and could thus be fast tracked for deletion with confirmation from an admin, while {{delete}} is used if to give people a chance to contest and decide before it get's deleted. In this case, both check points failed. There was no known decision (the fact pcj currently has unprecedented sway over tooltip and loot related issues just because the javascript is protected in his userpsace doesn't mean he should dictate what is done with them, which is more and more what i've seen going on.) for it to be marked as speedy delete, and secondly kd3, not seeing that it's no longer in use because pcj removed all usage before hand, couldn't make an informed decision (so imo he should have sought a second opinion from another admin or changed it to delete and asked for details). --   07:15, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Well, I would have preferred removing the part of {{object}} that triggers tooltip JS. Also, overuse of speedydelete is a problem, the reasoning that I'm an admin is specious. I suppose I could use {{loot}} for objects, but i'd rather not have to type the quality when it doesn't really exist. I also wanted a way to identify objects (and fixed devices) as being similar to items, except that they don't have tooltips in the strict in-game sense. It would have been nice to have tooltips for objects, even if they don't have them in-game. We shouldn't arbitrarily limit WoWWiki because the game doesn't do stuff.
On the related topic of courtesy, I think this episode reveals how in the manic/obsessive drive of people to "fix" things in WoWWiki, common courtesy and communication is being lost. I admit, I don't like communicating on IRC, mostly because I'm one of those persons who really needs to have time to edit what comes out of mouth or fingers, so I don't piss people off saying what my id is pushing through before my superego can edit and make it diplomatic. Some recent events in WoWWiki are making me realize even more why instant communication would be bad for me.--Gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 11:24 PM PST 3 Dec 2007
Unindenting: Courtesy, aye, possibly. Communication, not so much. That's what makes instant messaging type systems, such as IRC, so powerful. We move on the timescale of minutes to hours, not days or even weeks; it has also aided in the development of said JS, among other items. And really, you don't need to talk at the speed everyone else does; just watch the text roll by and speak your mind when you feel appropriate and/or collected enough to do so. It's a lot easier to take back something you said where what's recorded isn't recorded until the end of the day, as well as ask for clarification on certain doings; not all people hit F5 repeatedly on Special:recentchanges (I hope...). I'm not trying to sell you to IRC, I'm just reminding you of the perks of it. :) --Sky (talk | con | wh) 07:43, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Once again, I do apologize for the hasty delete. Was in the middle of a Category:Articles for speedy deletion triage and just did my usual check for any remaining incoming links. Didn't even notice the page had been created that very day (much like I didn't notice an hour ago either... >.>;). I will make more of an effort to check the page history too in the future unless it's obvious spam/policy violations. I've got finals in about 12 hours so I'm going to be logging off for the night. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do. I'll be on for a little while in the morning before I head to class. --k_d3 07:50, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Please restore a page

You deleted the guild page for my guild. The reason you listed was "redirecting to itself." As you can see from this google cache page: [2] the page did have content and was not just a redirect. If this was the case please restore it so I can fix the problem. As it stands, unless the policies recently changed, the page was within the rules for wowwiki and I don't think a deletion was justified.

If there was another problem with the page, please leave a note on my talk page so I can address it. Thanks, ZZqA 05:49, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Disambiguation naming policy with parentheses

Ugh, it seems that this is the MediaWiki / Wikipedia disambiguation policy as well. So be it. It is entirely frustrating with policy is created like this that is in direct opposition to the standards for the technology (Parentheses aren't part of the W3C standard for URLs). Oh well... thanks for the note. Oddible 23:32, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Dead links

When you move a page to the proper name and then delete the redirect, please fix the dead links to link to the new page or remove the links. Look at the mess that happened when you moved User:Pzarr/Mordo. If it is too much work I understand, no one cares about fanfic anyway and you as an admin are very busy.--SWM2448 00:36, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Bah, thought I got most of those. Will fix in a sec. Though I hardly think 2 broken links is a "mess"... --k_d3 00:37, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
It was 6 when I linked it...--SWM2448 00:43, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Unless something got skipped by RC or I'm not looking far enough back and you made edits before your post (which is entirely possible, as I just skimmed RC), there were only 5 incoming links, of which only 2 real links got changed. The remaining 3 dead links at the time of this post come from my sandbox or a new template I'm trying out, and the last is from the user's talk page pointing out the new location. Anyway, enough of this. ;) Back to the Special:Uncategorizedpages triage. --k_d3 00:53, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Make templates out of your nice messages?

I noticed you had some very well worded messages to Donmy on their talk page about how to correctly name article and notice about vanity redirects marked for deletion.

I wonder if there is a way to make them into templates that all admins could use (or maybe even regular users)? The templates would probably live in Category:General wiki templates, but I'm wondering if we need a Category:Administrative Wiki Templates.--Gengar orange 22x22.png Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7:28 PM PST 19 Dec 2007

Sure. What I've got right now can be found at User:Kaydeethree/f and User:Kaydeethree/n (and User:Kaydeethree/v at some point). I'll see what I can come up with to turn those into full-blown templates. --k_d3 03:38, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
And done. General templates can be found at {{Personal}}, {{ANP}}, and {{Vanity}}. Couldn't come up with a good one-word name for the player character template at {{ANP}}. --k_d3 19:33, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Shady Rest quest chain

Just so ya know... You rock, dude! And here I thought the only folks making useful quest chain pages were Jiyambi and myself! --Eirik Ratcatcher 20:49, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

I do not often use Questlong in questbox for quests in the middle of a chain... Either you're already doing the chain (and thus usually eligible), or you not eligible for the quest, in which case, the information for the first quest of the chain is what is relevant. I've broken down and added Questlong to the quest progression sections, though.
and... so {{item}} is the new {{loot}}? --Eirik Ratcatcher 19:22, 9 January 2008 (EST)
For {{quest}} vs {{questlong}}, I'm having a hard time making up my mind what I prefer. It's just odd seeing bot the short and the long forms intermittently.
For {{item}} vs {{loot}}, yah, pretty much. {{item}} makes doing a few things (like getting the icon) so much easier. Keep using loot inside tooltips, though. --k_d3 00:25, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Mainspace redirects to user pages

Why delete redirects in the main namespace to proper user subpages? You say the reason is the naming policy, but while Project:NAME#Player_characters says it must be as subpage, it does not say that the redirect can not be kept. If this is an agreed upon wiki rule (I am not saying it is not), can you please add something saying that to the main Naming Policy page in the player characters section? This will end some confusion. --SWM2448 01:39, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

AVT

I'm definitely liking this, however I don't get the [Mark as Patrolled] tool on the diff when I go there from the AVT. It would be even better if it could be in the details.

I would also like to see an option to build the list from the top of the page, rather than the bottom. Lupin gives a bit of code to put into the address bar, but I don't want to have to do that every time I open the page. --DuTempete talk|contr 07:14, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

Shepherd's Gate

When the PTR was back up, I was able to confirm that it does indeed display the location as the Shepherd's Gate as you pass through the instance portal into the Sunwell Plateau. However... On the way out, it also displays the location as the Walk of Elders. I'm thinking it's just a bug caused by them lifting some of the landscape from that map file, so I'm gonna go ahead and revert the page. Suzaku 00:57, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

Request for Permanent article lock

Hello, i was wondering if you could just lock the page Elune US due to the fact that people keep adding the 'elune drama' section. these people who are adding it are infact the people in the section and they consider themselves 'elune celebrities'. Really, the page is good enough for a server, and nothing more is necessary, so why not lock it due to the fact that these people will never let up.

thanks,

WoWWiki-Panthero 22:51, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

If there's good cause (like revert warring), the adminship will temporarily protect pages. We try to not protect articles if we can help it, as uneditable pages break the spirit of a wiki. There's been no edits to Elune US for eight days, (the last edit was me removing the protected tag) so for the time being it'll stay unprotected. Use the server talk page and the talk pages of other editors to come to a consensus if disputes arise.
Bringing issues to admins is the last resort. The article is on my watchlist (along with a few other admins by this point), so if editors are breaking policy, we'll step in. Though if I can help it, I prefer to stay out of server article disputes. I've got enough drama to deal with in my own guild. >.>; --k_d3 23:47, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: "Two blank lines is too much vertical space"

Hiya, Kaydee'. Two things!

First up, thank you very much for the positive feedback and encouragement. I have not received a beta key yet, so it is my pride and pleasure to transfer what information I can glean into this resource. Figuring out what quest ties into another, and where the objects are located, is one intriguing puzzle (almost as good as being there! -- no wait, I'd rather be there...).

In regards to your style suggestion - I'm strongly inclined to deny it, politely, unless you can show me what it is that you are seeing. You're not the first to tell me that "two lines are too many", but I'm quite of the opposite opinion: On Firefox, a single line before the Categories and navigation templates is often too few. Most of the time, the lines are invisible thanks to a particularly long infobox anyway.

A single link should make your point. I'll take a look. Which article looks poorly to you right now? User:JIM the Inventor/Sig1 14:56, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Ah! I see it now. I set aside some time to do side-by-side comparisons between the selected pages, and the browsers at my disposal. I profess that I started out confused - as is often the case, when two people disagree significantly, they can actually be talking about two different things! (I thought you spoke of the paragraphs at the end of the articles.) Indeed, my "preferred" spacing is mistaken, and I'll set to reversing it now.
Thanks for giving some patience to getting your point of view across. User:JIM the Inventor/Sig1 01:18, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

RE: Death knight quests

...and there's Category:Botanica quests even though it's "The Botanica" in-game; Category:Arcatraz quests even though it's "The Arcatraz" in-game, etc. Or are you saying that we should go over the whole discussion again about making it literate, with the class being "Death Knight", the zone being "The Barrens", the instance being "The Deadmines" etc?

Keep it at Category:Death knight quests, as there's already Death knight quests. And there's really no "hackery" needed {{questbox}}; I don't know where you got that from. g0urra[T҂C] 07:09, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

From a fellow Medivian - thank you!

I was only able to contribute from what little I find out on DeathKnight.info and other sources, but your first-hand info is most enlightening. This chain looks quite exciting!

Question, though, maybe you can clear it up - the Deathcharger, the quest "Into The Realm of Shadows". I've heard two different things: 60% speed and 100%. Can you confirm which one is true? --Joshmaul (talk) 04:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Beta

Sorry to ask you this but...

Loot vs Item

I am just curious as to why we should use loot vs item when loot take more information then item - ex {{Item|<Tree Frog>|<Tree Frog>}}  [Tree Frog] vs {{Loot|<Epic>|<Tree Frog>}} [Tree Frog] and {{Loot|<Common>|<Tree Frog>}}[Tree Frog] - they both display the same but Loot you have to say where it is epic or common or whatever -- I don't always know if they are epic, or common, rare or uncommon -- Item displays the correct color automaticaly -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 17:13, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

I try to use item everywhere that isn't a list. The way {{item}} works, we can pretty easily break the wiki on pages of lists (like the old version of Leatherworking patterns). Yeah, having to punch in the item quality is annoying, but it's mainly to keep the wikia techs from killing us in our sleep. >.> --k_d3 17:29, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Kalimdor Kocktail

Has there been a standard change discussed somewhere, for the formatting of cutscene text? I very much regret the loss of color involved. And I must disagree with your placing the text in the notes section; it is most emphatically part of the conclusion for this quest. And as I don't believe much in synchronicity, I note that Gourra, too, is changing questlong->quest. While this isn't a change I disagree with in general, I would like to be pointed to where it was discussed. ... unless you two came to the conclusion separately? --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 15:33, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't think there's been any serious discussion on the quest-vs-questlong thing, and if you scroll up, we've talked about it before. ;) I'm of the opinion that we don't need to duplicate all of that info in the questbox. It's all in the quest progression section and in the js tooltip.
Re the coloring thing, the webmaster-for-the-vision-impared in me says we should never color text without thinking about the background... Light yellow on white (say, in monobrook) doesn't work all that well. --k_d3 16:40, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Quest-vs-questlong: given I don't seriously disagree with you on it, what can I say? Just wanted to be sure if there was/was not an official policy change. Coloring: As I use oldskin/Wowwiki, I am unable to observe precisely what you do. If what you see is light yellow on white, then I agree that some change needs to be made. Would this be a CSS issue, to adjust the colors based on the skin? Please advise on this, as there are more than just a couple (but less than a lot) of pages that will be affected this way. --Eirik Ratcatcher (talk) 16:21, 12 August 2008 (UTC)
I'll probably poke the boilerplate to get it changed at some point. There's a few other things I want to change too. Re the coloring thing, take a look at this: [3]. I use our version of monaco, but I know people still use monobrook. We can probably set up some CSS classes for "NPC text", "emotes", "raid boss emotes", etc. --k_d3 17:17, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Cenarion is wrong it should be Cenarian

In the new beta patch 8220 they have changed Cenarion Circle to Cenarian Circle and Cenarion Expedition to Cenarian Expedition and someone on the wikia has made redirects to from Cenarian Circle to Cenarion Circle main page -- so I named them as they are in the achievements - that is why they are Cenarian and not Cenarion or rather why they were -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 00:29, 24 August 2008 (UTC)

Ok Blizzard made a mistake it appears - now in patch 8885 they changed them back to Cenarion - I wish they would make up theirs and my mind so I can keep my spell check program on the same page -- ( Morph | Contribs | Talk ) 14:08, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

why was my edit changed on patch 3.0.2

can you please tell me all i put was true about the the characters not being [email protected] (talk) 23:43, 14 October 2008 (UTC) plz dont email with answer

Because what happened tonight is far from unusual on a patch day... Especially a major patch day.
Additionally... we try to keep the Patch x.y.z articles as close to the official patch notes as possible. If you've come across an undocumented change, you're welcome to update Patch 3.0.2 (undocumented changes) with that information, trying to keep it in the form of the real patch notes. --k_d3 00:44, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
