Mistshear Wildlands is the second of the three furbolg-themed zones released in the Emerald Scream expansion. Located west and above the Echobole, Mistshear is often the next step in the journey for ambitious young furbolg.

The Mistshear Wildlands have been ravaged by the dark mist seeping up from the Ancient Ziggurat below. Black crystals dot the land, and the thick white mist common to this area has been tainted by a black presence that seems to cover everything. Even the great pine trees which cover the land have taken on a midnight tinge. The creatures of the lands have mutated, in some cases becoming hostile. The furbolgs, hoping to find a way to restore the land, have set up an outpost known as Mist Watch near the center of the woods. Here, they have erected a tall tower made from a hollowed-out ancient tree, and keep vigil over the spreading taint of the Ancient Ones.

Several giant creatures can be found in Mistshear Wildlands. The northwestern area of the hills is home to a huge spinewyrm named Deathscale, its spawn grown to unnatural sizes due to contamination by the dark mist. Near the Tainted Glade, night elves have set up a camp to study the effects of the mist on the wild, led by a mysterious figure from the past. Heroes of the furbolgs are called upon to discover the dark truth about the seeping corruption of the Emerald Temple, an old ruined shrine located in the north. A smaller area to the south named the Ashen Post lets furbolgs enter the night elven homeland of Ashenvale via a secret path, and the Darkweb Goblins are present here as well. Led by Oon Drachnar, they assault Mist Watch atop mechanical spiders and seeking to infiltrate Arbonaar by bending the soil to their will.

History

Mistshear Wildlands has little historical information related to it. Once known as the Silverdell Wildlands when the fubolgs first arrived, it was once as beautiful as the nearby Ashenvale. The wooded hills were corrupted by an ancient evil lurking below the ground. Black ichor seeps from many of the cracks in the ground, fouling vegetation and twisting animal life. Even the air itslef has become polluted with black-tinted mist. Due to the dangerous weather, the area was renamed "Mistshear". The woods have for a long time lain out of view from central Kalimdor, and has largely been left to itself by the neighboring tauren and night elves. As such, it is likely that this is why many enemies of the furbolgs, such as satyr and wolvar have found a haven here. When the nerubian seismic digger unearthed the Ancient Ziggurat in the Echobole, several large pieces of earth tumbled down into the caves below and opened up the path for young furbolgs to travel outside their home. But they were not alone...

Getting there

Mistshear Wildlands accessible from the Echobole, Mount Hyjal, and by a hidden path in Ashenvale. Only players who own the Emerald Scream expansion can enter. There are also flight paths in Barrowhome, Hyjal, Felwood, and Moonglade who lead directly to Mistshear.

Geography

Mistshear Wildlands lies in the middle of north-central Kalimdor. The forest is divided into two sections by a narrow strip of river called Taintwater Run. The smaller section, Silverdell Hills, which is connected by path to Ashenvale and the Echobole, is yet untainted by the black mist which covers the main part of the wildlands.

There are no instanced dungeons or battlegrounds in Mistshear Wildlands. The micro dungeon, Deathscale's Lair, can be found here. Mist Watch serves as the zone's travel hub, connecting it to Barrowhome.
