Tips and tactics

Thunderstorm has multiple uses. First, it is a self defense mechanism that helps the elemental shaman to push melee attackers away and also damage them a bit in the process. Secondly, Thunderstorm is one of the very few abilities in the game that has a knockback effect; this effect can be very useful in many situations in PvP (and select PvE situations) because it can be used to push an enemy player off cliffs or higher elevated places resulting in fatal fall damage unless the opponent has some countermeasure to save themselves.

Patch changes

Patch 10.0.7 (2023-03-21): Moved to [Improved Lightning Bolt]'s position in the talent tree (was row 8).
Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Now a row 8 Elemental talent (was a level 49 Elemental ability). Cooldown reduced from 45 seconds to 30.
Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now learned at level 49 (was 24).
Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Now learned at level 24 (was 16).
Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Damage increased by 20%. Now learned at level 16 (was 10).
Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): No longer regenerates Mana.
Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Mana gain increased from 8% to 15%.
