Wouldn't it be better to classify them per affiliation? (Horde, independent...) (Luxor (t/c) 06:42, 27 September 2011 (UTC))

What do you mean? Placing icons next to them or do you mean putting them into a larger/wider navbox with their own rows? Technically, all tauren tribes are as one and with the Horde, only the Grimtotems betrayed their own kind... and there's still Grimtotems within the Horde that didn't leave the Horde. Oh, never mind than. :P (Luxor (t/c) 14:18, 27 September 2011 (UTC))

Tribe/Family/organizations

We should probably fix the template to make a clearer distinction between all those. The Tauren tribe situation has been a mess for a long time :( Xporc (talk) 14:57, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

There's a bunch of "tribe" pages that are based entirely on conjecture (read: two or three NPCs with the same surname) and should probably be purged entirely, like Eagletalon tribe. For that matter, there's also a bunch of unnecessary dwarf clan pages (such as Moltenfist clan) that are similarly not based on anything except the assumption that a ruler's surname must equal an entire clan. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 15:33, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Well I'm the opinion that a thane/chieftain may as well transform a family into a clan or a tribe, considering dwarf thanes are often leading a clan named after themselves (thane bronzebead leads clan bronzebeard, and so on), but I agree that's probably not the best thing to do. Xporc (talk) 15:39, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Unless explicitly stated to be a tribe, maybe reword them into a family page and add them to Category:Family trees? Don't know if then they should be kept on the template, but probably no.
With the dwarves, I guess nuking the 1-member conjecture pages (Burningeye, Corehammer, Ironstar, Moltenfist), and keep the Angerforge, Anvilrage, Doomforge pages, as there are more NPCs with those names to make up the group / family, but they would drop the "clan" in the name. --Mordecay (talk) 15:41, 5 January 2019 (UTC)
Even if nuking, maybe keep the speculation somewhere that people like the Cliffwalker or the Dark Iron stuff might be smaller tribes/clans rather than just families? Xporc (talk) 10:12, 6 January 2019 (UTC)
They are separate on Tauren#Tauren tribes and organizations (with the Cliffwalker and Stonespire having text on what might make them a tribe). There's also the Tauren tribes page that should be cleaned up. Mrforesttroll (talk) 10:35, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

So for the following :

Move them all to remove the "tribe" part from the name? Xporc (talk) 09:12, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Honestly, I don't know anymore, given how literature randomly called the Skychasers a tribe and a family, and the Steelrage a tribe despite there being only one known Steelrage tauren. Given the tauren lore about them being united tauren tribes I can't think of the Runetotems as not being a tribe. But if we are 100% sure to be so strict about it (despite labeling murloc and naga tribes, even tho often times the term is not used) then probably we should go for it. Found a reference for the Stonehoof tribe, so not them. Gonna check quests and quotes for others now tho. --Mordecay (talk) 20:41, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
Tbh i'm not opposed to considering the Cliffwalkers and a few of them as a tribe, especially when they have a chieftain or at least 4 or 5 members in WoW. Xporc (talk) 20:50, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
How about the wording of the Cloudsong tribe? --Mordecay (talk) 20:56, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
Bloodhoof, Ragetotem, Cloudsong are all refered to as being tribes. As for the Stonespire, we see Elder Stonespire among the other tribal elders like Elder Bloodhoof, Elder Ragetotem and Elder Cloudsong, its pretty clear its the name of Gann's tribe. There are some rare tauren such as Samantha Swifthoof whose surnames appear to be personal rather then tribe, but they are the exception rather then the rule. Gann Stonespire (talk) 01:37, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
There are other tauren Lunar Festival Elders that don't mach a specific tribe. I added the section on the Stonespire tribe as a matter of fact to differentiate it form other tauren tribes that have their names clearly referenced, and it doesn't remove anything from the article. Mrforesttroll (talk) 02:06, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
The only ones I can think that don't refer to a known tribe of is Wheathoof(a tribute NPC) and Darkhorn, note there are several tauren with the Darkhorn surname in out of game materials though. Gann refers to his lost tribe, majority of Stonespire NPCs are in the barrens, vast majority of tauren characters have tribe surnames, Stonespire shoulders are an item and and the Stonespire NPCs have specific skintones(grey and brown). Gann Stonespire (talk) 02:41, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
Disagree with the assertion that "There are some rare tauren such as Samantha Swifthoof whose surnames appear to be personal rather then tribe, but they are the exception rather then the rule". There are hundreds of tauren NPCs with unique names that may belong to a larger tribe, but that still don't have the same surname as their tribe Xporc (talk) 09:35, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
There aren't that many to my knowledge. The ones that do have unique surnames are usually a reference or gag. Regardless I gave the reason why Stonespire is all but stated to be the tribe name. Gann Stonespire (talk) 10:02, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
You should take a look at the Category:Tauren and Category:Tauren characters there are hundreds of tauren NPCs with names that as far as we know are not tribes Xporc (talk) 10:31, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
I don't think I've seen anything stating that the Elders were chieftains. They may be just very wise dudes and not necessarily chieftains. --Mordecay (talk) 15:45, 16 January 2019 (UTC)
I have been looking at the tauren character category and I haven't seen a lot of tauren with unique surnames. Mordecay, they are almost certainly Chieftains, the quest is called H [10-70] The Fallen Chieftain and relates to them honoring Cairne. Gann Stonespire (talk) 22:19, 16 January 2019 (UTC)

Frosthoof taunka seem to also be a few NPCs that share a last name so removing them from template. Mrforesttroll (talk) 17:44, 25 May 2021 (UTC)
