The Primus and the Runecarver

To the surprise of no one, 9.1 datamining (not yet confirmed on the PTR as of writing) reveals that the Runecarver is the Primus.

Before any sweeping changes are made to either page, we should probably discuss how to handle this. Indiscriminately merging all of the content on both pages is probably not a good idea (in particular, grafting the Runecarver's lengthy "Legendary crafting" section onto the lore-focused Primus page would be pretty awkward IMO), so I see two options:

  1. Redirect the Runecarver to the Primus and make a separate page for the Runecarving system.
  2. Keep the Primus and Runecarver pages separate, but put all the lore stuff on the Primus page and make clear on the Runecarver's page (under a "True identity" header or something like that) that he's simply the identity the Primus has/had while imprisoned.

I personally think the second option would be more elegant. Beside the legendary crafting, the Runecarver NPC also has his own entire questline and quotes and such, and we've gone with a split-page solution for some other false identities in the past like Yorg Stormheart (whose false identity is due to amnesia, just like the Runecarver), Lindsay Ravensun, Hooded Crusader, and Hope Saldean. Just as I think it would be awkward and unintuitive if people got redirected to Sylvanas' lengthy lore article when they search for Lindsay Ravensun the Plaguelands quest giver, I think it would be unintuitive if people searching for information on the Runecarver NPC got redirected to the Primus article. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 19:49, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

Agree with the second option, considering the other examples listed. --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 20:05, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Considering the examples alone, definitely second option. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 20:11, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Second sounds fine yeah, though I personally prefer the first I have no objections. Don't even think a header is necessary, think it would muddle the page, just in the first paragraph be something like "The Runecarver was the name used for the Primus during his captivity in Torghast"HordeIconSmall Kael'thas.gifWarlockUser:Baalqliphoth(talk) 20:12, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Guess I'm mostly thinking about how the Yorg, Hope, and Hooded Crusader pages present those characters' real identities, and the fact that people sometimes complain about us putting major spoilers in opening sentences. I normally don't pay attention to those complaints since the wiki's purpose is obviously to provide information, but in this case it might be justified since the Runecarver's identity is one of the main mysteries the player is introduced to in 9.0, and since I'm not sure how much time/progress is needed to get to the Primus reveal in the Chains of Domination campaign. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 10:49, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Second option as fully stated yes. Mrforesttroll (talk) 20:19, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
