This place is cool! I'm there right now. --Oct 29, 2006 TM41

Alliance spawn spot?

I've been standing at newman's landing for about 40 minutes now, creating alliance chars on another account.

I've yet to see anyone appear.. I've tried tracking humanoids and tabbing as well and haven't come up with squat..

The only thing I have noticed, is that when I zoom in on my minimap, it resets to zoom all the way out every 20-30 seconds. This seems to coincide with when my new alts are about halfway through the loading bar.. But, it doesn't happen every time.

If its true that you can stand somewhere here and see level 1 alliance spawn, where is it? Randsome 04:06, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

Wait, so if youre at Newman's Landing, you see every human toon being made? This is confusing. (Mr.X8 00:48, 27 May 2007 (UTC))

Presumably what he is struggling to say, is that he hoped he could see the swarves spawning on the other side of the mountain. --Crash 14:21, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Wait, how could you get there if it takes 25 minutes to see and why is it listed as a closed spot if you can get there without exploitation? You would be dead of swimming if it took 25 minutes since when you're in the Great Sea, you get a fatigue bar, and when that runs out, you die. Mr.X8 02:22, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

  • Swim closer to the land, this way the fatigue bar does not appear. Took me like 30 minutes. Extremedeath
I have been here on real servers and the rumors are true. If you stand on the table and angle your camera correctly (youtube has a video showing how) you CAN see new characters spawning here then porting to their respective start areas hense the name Newman's Landing. If your server lags at the time (pretty rare) it will be easier to see it. (sorry for not signing my post at first. was like the first one i did on this site) --Whitedragon254 (talk) 21:49, 19 June 2008 (UTC)

Strange place

Where did people get the name of this place (Newman's Landing itself)? I arrived there, for another players my location was "Unknown", but for me it was "The Great Sea", not "Newman's Landing".

  • Please sign your comments. The name comes from the sign that is in the area. Wave your mouse over it and it will say Newman's landing -Extremedeath

And you need to use the 4 "~" marks. 21:39, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Odd Terrain

Just north of Newman's Landing (At 7,63 on the Dun Morogh map) there's a series of about nine shallow pyramidal recesses along the shore. They just seem a little strange, almost as if they were intentionally worked into the terrain by a bored terrain-worker one lazy Friday afternoon. I don't know if it's worth mentioning in the actual article itself, but the regularity of the pits seem a little too, well, regular for them just to be an accident. --Gordal 17:39, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

This is the same wherever you go when swimming around the outskirts of the world. As these are areas the player was not originally intended to visit, it is safe to assume that they just used a stock setup to fill out the landscape. --Suzanne 11:36, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I found them too i think we should include it either under interesting stuff or in the how to get their as a warning that you have missed/almost thereUtain 00:14, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
I found things like those when I was swimming around Kalimdor(can't remember which zone). I came up shore to check them out in Travel Form, and I got stuck for about 5 minutes. They're cat traps.--Potato1 (talk) 13:46, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

GM Conversation.

I actually went there with some friends on my RP character. I was really curious about the place and ticketed a GM.

This is what followed: http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/1683/gm01zz4.png

(Note: He was probably spectating me, he was nowhere to be seen.)Marlamin (talk) 09:10, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

I see a blizz logo, not a <GM> tag. Is it real? The person does not tell you much anyways.--SWM2448 21:21, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
Since patch 2.4 GM's have a BLizz logo in front of them to make sure scammers can't impersonate a GM properly anymore. I can upload the full screenshots if you still don't believe me. And I still think it's awesome due to the GM actually taking the time. Marlamin (talk) 09:10, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
What did he do so that you'd follow him? appear as a light? Reveal himself as an NPC? User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 22:41, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
He didn't appear in any way, as I said under the screenshot. It would be damn cool if he did.Marlamin (talk) 09:09, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
But how did you follow him? Did he take control of your toon or something? User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 20:14, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
He guided with words. Pretend.--SWM2448 (talk) 20:24, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
Oh, right... forgot it was an RP server... Hey Marlamin, see if you can get ahold of that GM again and ask when the ship crews are returning.. I miss them. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 20:39, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
I'll try, but chances are always small of getting the same GM again. I've had several tickets already in between the Newman's Landing Convo and now, and still not the same GM.
(Note: The tickets we're to report stupid names like a warlock named "dotgirl". Which is not acceptable on a RP server.) Marlamin (talk) 09:58, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Name

Anyone wonder if maybe it's called Newman's Landing because new Alliance characters "land" there before going to their starting locations? You know, New-man's-Landing?

Lies

This bit about seeing new players spawn is complete bulls**t. Note that no one ever comes forward with actual "proof" or anything even remotely resembling specific details (not even this "there's a video on YouTube of it" because that's a lie, too--look for yourself), and that's because they're all repeating what they heard from someone else who was also talking through their hat. -- Dagmar d'Surreal (talk) 23:55, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

... Well i didn't found that place by swimming from stormwind, I climbed the f***ing mountains, without mount, and i came there, i didn't even knew you could swim from stormwind, you know what i tried? I tried to get to Stormwind by entering the mountains at Frostmane Hold, But its true, i've seen it, summer 2010, so proof enough! PMSF (talk) 16:57, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

WOTLK Changes

As of PTR 09/22/2008:

  • Newman's Landing still exists, it was not destroyed with Stormwind Harbor.
  • Since you can start at the north end of SW Harbor, it's a much shorter trip (maybe 5 minutes)
  • It now shows as being in Dun Morogh, except for the water and the edge of the dock which show as The Great Sea.
  • Drowning myself under the dock resulted in resurrecting in Westfall.

--Dewin (talk) 09:08, 22 September 2008

also a Goblin has been added to the dock, who happens to sell blacksmith supplies--Syteless (talk) 21:09, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

  • They probably added the Gobin and the Booty Bay Bruisers because more people are more likely to stumble upon Newman's Landing since Stormwind Habor is open.--Mistertrouble189 (talk) 02:05, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Ghost?

Ok, I was at Newman's landing a moment ago, and I saw a ghost. She stood at the door for a moment before walking inside, turning and doing the beg emote. I couldnt select her, but I did manage to get two Screenshots.

Has anyone else seen this? Amzer (talk) 21:33, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

  • It was probably a player. This is a "ghost costume" from Hallow's End. Strange that you couldn't select her, though. - Sikon (talk) 10:37, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
    • Untargetable ghost, hmm... Intriguing, and remember what the GM said... INV Misc Orb 04.pngXavius, the Satyr Lord 09:36, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
      • interesting...although, looks to me like you're a cloth wearer...what class is that char? mage? priest? or perhaps a warlock? the interesting thing is that a warlock can cast dectect invisibility to see such things, just like the citizens in the ruins by the undercity...maybe there was another ghost that was out of your sight there? I don't think it would be a strech to say that there might have been another ghost there that she was begging for her life to standing just out of your sight, and the GM did hint that the place was haunted, GMs seem to 9 times out of 10, know more than they're flat out telling you (anyone else notice that?), anyway, one thing that's gotten me curious is the cup object thing on the table by the water, on the dock, to the south, the letters and the hammer the resembles the hammer on the IF logo make me think...perhaps there's more hints than most notice at first glace? I really think it's one of the places that you really need to look at every single last object within the area to get it, perhaps all the clue to what happened for certain are there, we just need to take every last thing into consideration?--Sebry (talk) 18:42, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

I searched this area with the  [Extra-Dimensional Ghost Revealer] but found nothing new. SmashAdam (talk) 06:15, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

This ghost thing hints even more at the fact that the occupants got murdered. Like, she was looking out, seeing her husband or something getting killed by the signpost where the skull is impaled by the axe, then going in where another bandit is standing and begging for her life and he then kills her.

Upcoming Content?

I thought about this place a bit, since they added goblins to this area, could it possibly be that the next expansion will be related to the Undermine and Blizz is just giving us hints? —DeathGrim (talk) 00:59, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Or they're just placing npcs in empty areas. This isn't the only place where pointless npcs have been added, just because. Several once empty huts throughout the barrens now have npcs just hanging around, doesn't mean the barrens is going to play a huge part in the next xpak. Don't forget to sign your posts. I guess we may find out soon, another few major patches and Blizz will most likely announce another expansion. There were rumors that the next one, if there will be a next one, would be the Undermine/Maelstrom. The goblins are also facing that area, which may be another hint if that is what Blizz is trying to do. - DeathGrim (talk) 01:06, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
They could be facing the sea because they don't want to look at rocks and abandoned buildings all day... --Super Bhaal (talk) 16:51, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
While it may or may not be related, we do know now that the next expansion in fact does relate to goblins as well as the barrens seeing some major attention. Maybe minor changes like this really are hints? SmashAdam (talk) 05:32, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Catalysm

I think that this will have something to do with the new expansion, Catalysm, seeing that Goblins will be a new playable race, and that there's Goblins at the docks facing the sea and the island the Goblins come from. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fnorkus (talk · contr).

Request: Change

I died north of the landing and appeared by Iceflow Lake. I don't really want to try this again, but could the article be wrong? --Sanaan (talk) 03:23, December 24, 2009 (UTC)

The article is most likely out of date... Blizzard has added several new Graveyards to many zones since the article was written. And since you spawn to the closes GY when you die, that could be the closest one now. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:46, December 24, 2009 (UTC)

Probably Not That Place

If you ask me, i think the bay/house isn't Newman's Landing. Because, the sign, that says "Newman's Landing" Points tohe house, or what is behind, i think its about the Plains in a higher area, im currently trying to get up there, but its pretty hard without flying mount. PMSF (talk) 18:46, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

I think the "Landing" part cements it as a dock.--SWM2448 00:37, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

Horde character went to Newman's Landing

I took my horde character to Newman's Landing (she started at Northern Stranglethorn Vale) and you can see in this screenshot. When I made her drown underwater near the area, instead of respawning in Menethil Harbor, she respawned in The Barrens. I think the article was lying about where a player respawns after dying in the area. --FenneyKindleFire (talk) 17:18, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

i'd guess the editor who wrote that only tested on an alliance character, since the page lists the "default graveyard" located in westfall but not its horde equivalent at the crossroads in the barrens. not sure how menethil harbor fits in with things though. maybe it was an alternate alliance-specific default graveyard? Eithris (talk) 18:06, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
Generally speaking yeah, if you die in an "unknown" zone, your ghost will appear either in Westfall or the Barrens, depending on your faction. PeterWind (talk) 22:36, 20 June 2024 (UTC)
