Gilneas

Okay people, hear me out.
The time has come. I want to start moving the Gilneas links, which is something huge, like more than a thousand links. I would like to finish before BfA comes out but I have a life, kind of. So, I guess we are going to move the current Gilneas to Gilneas (starting zone), and also we should move Kezan to Kezan (starting zone). My question is... which is more accurate? Gilneas (starting zone) or Gilneas (starting area)? Since the last one is the name we have in the wiki: Starting area.

  • PD: I think I will regret this :O --Ryon21 (talk) 18:46, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Why? -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 19:04, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
My guess would be that when sometimes there's a link to Gilneas it is meant to be the Ruins of Gilneas? --Mordecay (talk) 19:08, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
We had this talk on the slack sometime ago. Basically what Mordy said. The Gilneas page is about the worgen starting zone, and currently the one taking the lore and its present status is the Ruins of Gilneas. For other people can be quite confusing so it may be better to have a lore page for the peninsula and have the two zones as only that, in-game material. Also, it is possible that in the future, because we know Blizz, the Ruins of Gilneas could be restored and they could change to name to just Gilneas again. And that would be a problem, so better solve it before it, if ever, happens. --Ryon21 (talk) 19:31, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
I usually call them "starting area", but they are also zones. I dunno :o Xporc (talk) 20:04, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
How about using "starting zone" since that is what Blizzard used in the news articles when the starting zones were enhanced with Warlords. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 20:29, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
I've always used starting zone (don't know why) but since it is official then Starting Zone it is. Now, next days some prayers and to work! --Ryon21 (talk) 21:19, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
I'm hesitant to undertake such a massive change solely on the basis that there might possibly be a problem depending on what may or may not happen in the future. It also, frankly, would be entirely inconsistent with how every other zone article is written. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 21:40, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
The Gilneas page is not actually about Gilneas, it's about the worgen starting zone, which is admittedly odd. So if I understand correctly we want to move Gilneas (the kingdom) to Gilneas, and the worgen starting zone to Gilneas (starting zone). Then we have Gilneas City, which is fine, Gilneas (the faction) which is fine as well, and Ruins of Gilneas which is an in-game zone (there's 2 in-game Gilneas zones, Ruins of Gilneas (present) and Gilneas (past)). I don't see the issue with this, it's weird to use Gilneas for the Gilneas-zone set in the past instead of the actual kingdom or city like Stormwind, complicated for editors (who keep linking to Gilneas-zone-set-in-the-past instead of the city or kingdom and thus create a lot of false interwiki links), in addition to being unintuitive for the readers. -- MyMindWontQuiet 21:48, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, what MMWQ said, I don't know why I said that about the peninsula. The idea is that the Gilneas page is used for the kingdom. --Ryon21 (talk) 21:53, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Given how the Gilneas starting zone is unique - seen only at the start for worgen players, unlike the other starting zones which can be visited whenever by whoever, it's a good idea, me thinks. What would be inconsistent?
The page kingdom wasn't mentioned here. If that would be moved, then that would be inconsistent with the other kingdom pages, no? I think that Gilneas should remain a zone, redirecting to its "current" state of the Ruins of Gilneas, and leave the kingdom page as is to be consistent with the other kingdom pages. --Mordecay (talk) 21:53, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Like it is with Alterac, the page of Gilneas will redirect to Gilneas (kingdom). I think this is the plan. --Ryon21 (talk) 22:01, 2 May 2018 (UTC)
Oh, if so, then ok, I guess. Was confused about the moving part. --Mordecay (talk) 22:05, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

What happened to it? :O --Mordecay (talk) 23:13, 31 August 2018 (UTC)
Too much work happened. I don't know if I will be able to do this... At least not anytime soon. --Ryon21 (talk) 23:15, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

4896 years later I f. finally finished. Now Kezan and check some Gilneas City links. :sweating: --Ryon21 (talk) 17:37, 18 May 2019 (UTC)

I'll post this here since it is part of the talking.
About the redirect. I created the "Gilneas peninsula" so I could clean up the "Gilneas" links in an easier way. But in the end those two links were supposed to be one and the same. Since the starting zone is just called "Gilneas", I think it would be better if that redirect went into the "Ruins of Gilneas", aka the current page for the lore of the peninsula. Yes, Alterac redirects to the kingdom but we also have other links like Stormwind to which redirects to the City like Stromgarde to the Keep. Thoughts about this? --Ryon21 (talk) 19:42, 18 May 2019 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you are asking. Is this about Gilneas or Gilneas peninsula? :p Xporc (talk) 12:02, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
About the "Gilneas" link that currently redirects to the kingdom page. --Ryon21 (talk) 13:47, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
Well if you think it's better for "Gilneas" to redirect to "Ruins of Gilneas", feel free to do it :p Xporc (talk) 08:03, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Zone-changing trick doesn't seem to work

"It is possible to re-enter the starting zone after the questing by simply flying high above the Greymane Manor at the spot where it changes from the Ruins of Gilneas to Gilneas, dismounting and dying, appearing in Duskhaven. From there either jump through mountains or bypass the western area to find the spirit healer in Gilneas City."

This didn't work for me. After I died, my ghost spawned in the Ruins of Gilneas at the Aderic's Repose graveyard. - Linneris (talk) 14:37, 22 November 2022 (UTC)

No longer works, but it did work before Sl or BfA. --HordeRace bloodelf male.jpg Mordecay (talk) 15:00, 14 December 2023 (UTC)
