Quotes in WoW

I've noticed this page doesn't have his greetings or aggro quotes from World of Warcraft in here like with the other faction leaders. If anyone could supply them, it would be much appriciated. Eman91 22:13, 23 February 2008 (UTC)Eman91 14:13 23 February 2008 (PDT)

Cairne's WoW weapon

Does anyone know what kind of weapon Cairne is holding in World of Warcraft? It looks like a giant log of some kind. --Hazdar 16:01, 31 Dec 2005 (EST)

It's classified as a polearm, but it's always been considered his totem. The Tauren Chieftains in Warcraft III all hold similar weapons. --Magnus 20:00, 26 October 2006 (EDT)
Actually the Tauren Cheiftains in Warcraft 3 all held two-hand axes. The normal tauren troop unit from Warcraft 3 and the tauren on the WoW cinematic are the only characters I've ever seen use a totem. To answer Hazdar's question, on WoW model viewer it calls it Cairne's Totem Weapon. I'm not sure whether it is used as a two-hand weapon or a two-hand long, neither seems to look right but it's not a weapon that players can get. --Mooxim 01:17, 04 June 2007

There is a dual 'However' in the second and third paragraph. There shouldn't be two paragraphs in sequence starting with however, it just sounds *SO WRONG* rofl --  ℑilver§ℑide 16:12, 31 Dec 2005 (EST)

Grand Chief?

He is "grand chief" in the article, but where does that title come from? It's sounds really corny to me. --Picaroe (talk) 12:05, December 6, 2009 (UTC)

I can't find anything about that title. It isn't from HPG, LoM nor S&L, not from WoW nor WC3 manual and neither of WC3 nor WoW games. I have also checked the official web site and I found nothing. I think it's a fan name. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 19:55, December 6, 2009 (UTC)

Death?

I have heard several rumors that in the upcoming expansion Cairne is going to be branded as a traitor by Garrosh Hellscream and killed.....anyone know if this is true? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dragoon13570 (talk · contr).

The rumors all stem from an article of "leaked lore" that MMO threw up shortly before Cataclysm, most of which has turned out to either be flat out wrong or correct in the general sense but wrong in the details. As to the veracity of this particular rumor, well, we won't know until Blizzard puts it into the game (or doesn't put it in, as the case may be). -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 06:17, December 24, 2009 (UTC)
That part of the Cataclysm leak wasn't technically part of the leak at all; it came from Something Awful.

PC Gamer UK stating it (somewhat more recently) as a done deal? That's something to worry about a bit, but I'd still suggest taking it with a grain of salt: they might just be parroting MMO-Champ (and therefore, by extension, SA).

All that's confirmed, at this point, is a certain detail that's been datamined. There's no guarantee that Cairne would have to die (rather than step down) for that to happen; and even if he does die, Garrosh might not be involved.
IconSmall Draenei Female.gif Farseer Loloteatalkcontrib 07:18, March 15, 2010 (UTC)
PC Gamer isn't stating it's a done deal; they explicitly said it's theory and conjecture based on their own independent research, which means they probably ARE just parroting MMO/SA. Notice that they also stated the seeming impossibility of Malfurion appointing Thrall as Guardian of Tirisfal, despite Malfurion having nothing to do with the Order and Med'an already being the new guardian (which was not publicly known when the first "leak" occurred). -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 19:57, March 15, 2010 (UTC)
Not going to lie but i really hope they dont kill him off. However i can see why they would. He would oppose Garrosh at every opportunity once he declares war on the alliance and so Garrosh would find some way of getting rid of him. Something tells me that the Grimtotem clan will be playing a role in this IF it does happen. Im still hoping it doesnt though. Dragoon13570 (talk) 18:59, March 16, 2010 (UTC)
I actually think it far more likely that Cairne will step down go 'wandering' as he seems to want to do, or die of old age rather than be executed for some imagined treason. It's hard to believe the Tauren as a whole would take that on the chin. Metalmunki (talk)

I dunno, Cairne being killed would make an awful lot of sense considering the tone of the expansion: upheaval. Don't get me wrong, I've been a fan of Cairne since I first saw him in WC3. However, something like this would cause tremendous rifts to form within the horde, even moreso than Garrosh's controversial rise to Warchief, and that could be interesting. At any rate, my storytelling senses tell me that in a story named "Cataclysm", people aren't going to die peacefully. LanceOmikron (talk) 03:19, March 23, 2010 (UTC)

Agreed Cairne will not die of old age if they do plan on him dieing in this expansion. If they do kill him off i am almost certain that the grimtotem will have something to do with it. That would also be why the tuaren dont revolt because they are either afraid of the clan or they dont realize that Cairne was killed by them. Maybe Cairnes son will lead a revolt and you have to help him? Cause Cairne is to important of a character to just kill off and say it was old age. So i do hope blizzard has a story for us if they kill him off Dragoon13570 (talk) 15:05, April 20, 2010 (UTC)

I found this link in a WoW Forum post, and it does hint that his son will take over leadership of Thunder Bluff, which is part of the rumor.[1] Flare13 (talk) 15:38, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

I have to argue the validity of that source. It could very easily have been some fan freak altering the post just for the sake of confusing others who seek WoW related information. Plus, it's the only quest in that series that has actually been changed by someone.AhotahThunderhorn (talk) 15:48, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

My guess is that Magatha Grimtotem will have something to do with his death. That old crone's being quiet for far too long. Wolfstorm11 (talk) 15:53, June 29, 2010 (UTC)
It also only suggests that Cairne isn't in charge anymore, which doesn't necessarily have to be because he's dead. He might be off saving babies with Thrall. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 16:11, June 29, 2010 (UTC)
Its been speculated for a while now that his son is going to take over and from the looks of things he is. Now whether this is because his father is dead by the hands of either the grimtotems or Garrosh is yet to be seen. As already stated he may not be dead but off helping Thrall. It just saddens me that one of the coolest figures in WOW has the least amount of interaction. Dragoon13570 (talk) 16:40, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

well the beta is out(well not invites yet) and the NDA is lifted....so can someone PLEASE tell us what happens to him? Dragoon13570 (talk) 00:18, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

According to WoR, Cairne is indeed dead, poisoned by Magatha Grimtotem - link here. Before the NDA was lifted, one of my friends in the Alpha told me something about a duel between Garrosh and Cairne, intended to be non-lethal - a friendly challenge of sorts - but Cairne died in the midst of it, causing Garrosh to panic, thinking "oh crap, I just killed the chieftain of the tauren". He discovers the Grimtotems have taken control of Thunder Bluff and were responsible for poisoning Cairne, weakening him and leading to his death, and so he leads Horde forces to liberate Thunder Bluff and install Baine as chieftain.
So alas, friends, the old cow is dead. --Joshmaul (talk) 03:33, July 1, 2010 (UTC)

Infobox picture

Unlike Velen (who's close up shot could work) Cairne's is just stupid. Not stupid as in it's a bad picture, stupid because both pictures seem odd for profiles. The TGC one has him looking to the side all weird like, and while the Wei one has him looking forward..ish, it looks weird because he is so friggin big. I'm going to revert it now, simply for consistencies sake with the other faction leaders but...yeah lets have a discussion over it >.>--TheUltimate (talk) 19:25, March 4, 2010 (UTC)

I agree for Velen, but not Cairne, because on the Wei shot, you see nothing of him because of Vol'jin kneeling in front.
On "consistencies", I disagree, we should put the most representative shot in infobox, no put all Wei shots to all faction leaders because it's the "cool" picture of the moment.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 19:29, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
I think a consensus should be reached. There is already a vote about the infobox images, but it doesn't appear to be going anywhere. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 20:20, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
Umm... Is there a reason that all the infobox images are being switched to the Wei? The only benefit to Wei is that all the characters are shown together. Although if were going to have most of them use the Wei image, we might as well use them all. --Ragestorm (talk · contr) 22:59, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
@A'noob: That weapon was Vol'jins? I though that was some tauren thing he was holding. /shrug. But you do have a point with the most representative shots. My reasoning was two fold: 1) The Wei images was recent, and 2 just seemed to be profile-esqe.
@Benitoperezgaldos: Yeah, a consensus should be reached, I'll look at that vote.
@Ragestorm: /shrug, I changed them because, as I said before, they were recent, offical from Blizz, and profile-esque. I know nothing of what else Wei had. /shrug.--TheUltimate (talk) 23:09, March 4, 2010 (UTC)
I uploaded them but i only switched the ones i thought were better. I don't see the need to use all of them just to be consistant. I think Thrall, Varian, and Lor'themar are absolutely the best ones. Tyrande, Magni, and Vol'jin not by a large margin but still just slightly edging out the others. Cairne, Velen, and Gelbin are too cut up and/or too dark and better fuller images exist, and Sylvanas is nearly in profile, which is why i didnt change those. However all is completely subjective and i wouldn't give it a second of arguement if others disagree and pick different images. Warthok Talk Contribs 00:10, March 5, 2010 (UTC)
I agree with Warthok; use the best profile images, regardless of source. We don't need to be consistent with where they come from. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 00:14, March 5, 2010 (UTC)
Okay i will say this. I can understand if others want to use Sylvanas, Gelbin, and Velen but i think Cairne's is pretty awful. Warthok Talk Contribs 00:20, March 5, 2010 (UTC)
Glad to read I am not the only one to say we see nothing of Cairne on that one.
IconSmall Hamuul.gif Loremaster A'noob, Arch Druid of the Noobhoof Clan (talk/contribz) 08:29, March 5, 2010 (UTC)

Since this conversations seems to have died I'm just gonna try and wrap up any possible loose ends. I initialy changed Varian, Thrall, Magni, Tyrande, Vol'jin, and Lor'themar. No one seemed to object to that. The other four were later changed and Cairne was changed back, something i agree with. As far as Gelbin goes i've reconsidered and think the Wei image is fine so unless someone thinks the TGC one is better i think we can leave it as is. Same with Sylvanas, the picture is a profile but i perfer it now because after looking at the old image I realized its concept art and maybe not the most appropriate. Velen however i'm still not satisfied. I feel he's too cropped, backlit, and that piece of border is not aesteticly pleasing. I think one of the other fuller images would look better in the infobox. Any objections?Warthok Talk Contribs 19:03, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

I actually prefer the old pictures of Magni (because the one of Wei is no looking to the front, although this change may be wrong because an artwork is supposed to be better than a cropped image of the comic), Sylvanas and Velen. Benitoperezgaldos (talk) 19:13, March 17, 2010 (UTC)
Whoa did i miss this or was it just added? File:Magni TCG - Samwise.jpg This one i much perfer except for the guards. On a personal note i love this piece of art. I'm going to go ahead and change Velen for the time being. Warthok 19:24, March 17, 2010 (UTC)

Model

So seeing as how the majority of the other racial leaders have gotten a makeover ive been wondering if anyone knows about Cairne getting one. He has probably the most basic models out of all the leaders....Dragoon13570 (talk) 01:58, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

No idea yet, but I'd argue that Lor'themar Theron has an even more basic model than Cairne does. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 02:24, May 19, 2010 (UTC)
Seems to me.. if they get involved with something major, their model is updated... so if Cairne is still around when emerald dream or something that he'll be more involved with, his model might be updated. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:26, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

The emerald dream was already wrapped up and it would make sense for them to wait for another expansion after Cata to update his model unless you meant cata =P. But yeah i hope they do update his model and Lor'Themar cause they need it Dragoon13570 (talk) 02:54, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

What do you mean already wrapped up.. I don't remember entering the dream or nightmare as it were. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 02:56, May 19, 2010 (UTC)
The Stormrage novel pretty much took care of it. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 06:38, May 19, 2010 (UTC)
Well according to 1. issue of the WoW Magazine (the preview) the emerald nightmare is still going to appear in Cataclysm. It is said that atleast one oasis within the barrens (can't remeber if its northern or southern barrens) is threatened by it. Aedror42 (talk) 13:30, May 19, 2010 (UTC)
My guess is that that would be a remnant of the Nightmare rather then a direct assault from the Nightmare Lord again (as he was utterly destroyed). If it only appears in the Barrens, it would also be a bit small of a return of the malevolent force behind Xavius. Ofcourse, it excludes nothing as there have been images flying around of the Emerald Dream areas... Wolfstorm11 (talk) 23:30, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Grammar for section "The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm"

I'm having a hard time understanding some of the sentences in this section. No offence to the original author, but it reads as though their native language is not English. I would fix it myself, but I'm not really sure what it is supposed to say. I'm also not familiar enough with this portion of the lore. HeavensSword (talk) 16:00, 15 May 2014 (UTC)
