Hello, just wanted to let you know that when relatives section was created it was intended to be used for "relatives" I.E. those physically related through blood or marriage (and adoption), not people, organizations, groups affiliated with each other, but not actually "related". If it was used for all things that were connected in some way, then the infobox would be going outside of its purpose, as alot of things can be connected to each other for various reasons. Antagonists, enemies, competitors, etc... This could make the list overly long and complex... Dare I say the possibility of six degrees of seperation syndrome. I hope this clears things up.Baggins (talk) 07:44, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see. I guess I was confused because I've previously seen that the relatives section has been used quite commonly for non-family relations. The five dragon aspects are a good example. LanceOmikron (talk) 07:59, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
A few of the dragon aspects are related I think. But ya, there are some problems that need to be fixed around the forums. NO one really reads the templates to see the instructions, so I can see where confusion arises. In anycase I just seperated out "mentors" and "students" into new categories that can be used now. They were previously folded into the relative instructions.Baggins (talk) 08:04, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Indeed, Alexstraza and Ysera are the only aspects that have a familial relation. Hmm...maybe we could create a new category expressly for non-family relations. "Associates", perhaps?LanceOmikron (talk) 08:13, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Ya I was discussing associates previously with some people. Not sure the definition would allow for arch-enemies though. I had to look it up to be sure but it seems associations by definition are people who work for the same cause.Baggins (talk) 08:18, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Hmm, that could be a problem. My first instinct tells me to create seperate categories for both friendly and hostile non-family relations, but I have a feeling that there's a simpler solution somewhere. Ah well, back to the dictionary I go. There must be a general term somewhere for close non-family connections. Maybe rename the "relatives" category "family" and have the second category be "misc. relations"? Just a random thought.LanceOmikron (talk) 08:28, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Well I did go to some dictionaries/thesaurus for "relatives" when it is used to describe "persons" rather than objects/things, it is specifically applies to blood relatives, and those brought into a family by marriage/adoption, some kind of ancestral connection. Relatives when used to describe a physical object has nothing to do with "lineage".
Now "relations" as a word is a little less defined, and can include family, friends, acquaintances, etc, both good and bad relations.
Of course once you get into the thesaurus you find that affiliation is one of the syn. of relation, as well.Baggins (talk) 08:44, 3 July 2008 (UTC)
Alright, what do you recommend?LanceOmikron (talk) 08:51, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

Your opinion is desired

Hey, we're pretty much settled on leaving Wikia, but I wanted to see if you had any input. Thanks. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 00:41, October 10, 2010 (UTC)
