Stormwind Royal Guards are human guards located in Stormwind City. They can be found outside and inside Stormwind Keep, and are among the city's most elite defenses.
Background
World of Warcraft
Prior to the reveal that Lady Katrana Prestor was in fact the black dragon Onyxia, some of the royal guards had been subverted by Onyxia's Elite Guards in disguise. They revealed their true nature when Marshal Reginald Windsor unveiled Lady Prestor's identity, though they were slain by their fellow guardsmen and Alliance adventurers.[1]
Wrath of the Lich King
A number of them accompanied Varian Wrynn and Jaina Proudmoore to the Argent Coliseum, and watched over the events that took place there.
Cataclysm
Following the Cataclysm, a platoon of these guards regularly patrol the roads of Elwynn Forest on horseback, hunting down threats to the local citizenry.
Mists of Pandaria
Another retinue of these guards accompanied the Alliance delegation during the Siege of Orgrimmar, occupying areas of the Shrine of Seven Stars and later in the Underhold following the defeat of Garrosh Hellscream. These guards, accompanying the royal family, stood at the back of King Varian Wrynn as he confronted Thrall and locked shields to punctuate their monarch's words of warning to the orc shaman and his compatriots.
Legion
When the third invasion of the Burning Legion of Azeroth started, the guards in the royal Keep were busy fighting demons shortly after the death of Varian, as well as when Veiled Hand cultists and the Uncrowned sabotaged and infiltrated the keep.[2]
Battle for Azeroth
[50] On Whispered Winds.During the early days of the Fourth War, members of the guard were also seen patrolling the city during 
[10-60] The Stormwind Extraction, as the city was on high alert following the incarceration of the Zandalari Princess Talanji. They were unable to prevent the rescue of the princess by Horde agents, however.
