Smite is the first priest spell, known by all priests from level 1. Priests that specialize into Shadow will have this spell replaced with [Mind Flay].
Tips and tactics
- Thanks to
[Atonement], Discipline priests can use Smite to heal their allies.
Trivia
- Holy Smite is a basic Priest spell in Hearthstone. The flavor text reads: "It doesn't matter how pious you are. Everyone needs a good smiting now and again."
- During the original World of Warcraft alpha, it was named "Holy Smite".

Hotfix (2025-03-11): Damage increased by 80% in PvP combat.
Patch 11.1.0 (2025-02-25): Damage increased by 25% for Discipline.

Patch 7.3.5 (2018-01-16):
- Smite damage reduced by 33%.
- Smite (Rank 2), learned at level 16, now increases damage by 50%.
Patch 7.2.5 (2017-06-13):
- Smite damage increased by 16% for Discipline and 25% for Holy.
- Smite now costs 0.5% of base mana (was 1.0%).
Patch 7.1.0 (2016-10-25): Additional effects now learned at level 36 (was 10 for Discipline and 12 for Holy).
Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Damage increased by 162.8%.
- Additional effect added for Discipline at level 10: Now prevents 100% of the damage dealt to be dealt by the enemy.
- Additional effect added for Holy at level 12: Now has a 20% chance to reset the cooldown of
[Holy Fire].
Hotfix (2014-10-30): Smite critical hits should no longer incorrectly cause the target to be healed for a greater than intended amount through
[Atonement] while also receiving a larger than intended damage shield that's granted through
[Divine Aegis].
Hotfix (2010-12-02): Smite's scaling coefficient has been increased. The damage of Smite is now very similar to Heal in value.
Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Now costs 15% of base mana, up from 9% of base mana. Cast time increased from 1.5 sec to 2.5 sec.
