This ability was mentioned in the April Fools' Day patch 8.6.7.5309 notes: "It's been almost 15 years and Shadowstrike still reminds you of that one polearm nobody wanted in Molten Core."

Patch 10.2.0 (2023-11-07): Energy cost increased to 45 (was 40) and damage increased by 23%.
Patch 10.1.0 (2023-05-02):
- Damage increased by 10%.
