Ranger Captain Areiel was a Darkfallen dark ranger of high elf origin serving the Forsaken.

History

Areiel once fought alongside Shandris Feathermoon two or three thousand years ago.[1]

During the war against the Lich King, Areiel, now as a Forsaken Ranger Captain in the Hand of Vengeance, led a group of dark rangers in the Howling Fjord, situated at Ghostblade Post. She was waiting for reinforcements from Vengeance Landing in order to launch an assault on Nifflevar and claim it for the Forsaken. To lessen the numbers that she would face when the reinforcements come, she sent adventurers into Nifflevar to weaken the town.

She also briefly appeared in Stormheim during the Burning Legion's third invasion.

At the Necropolis in Nazmir in the midst of the war between the Alliance and Horde, she was confronted by her old night elf ally Shandris Feathermoon and the human John J. Keeshan. Areiel insulted Shandris for allying with a human, but as Shandris killed her she told Areiel that her views on humans were outdated.[1]

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

When Areiel and Shandris fought together may have been during the Troll Wars, which fits the timeframe Areiel mentioned of two to three thousand years ago. Emmarel Shadewarden is another night elf who claims to have fought alongside a high elf, Talanas Windrunner, during an Amani incursion,[2] possibly during the Troll Wars, as that is when Talanas rose to prominence.[3] Both Emmarel and Shandris are part of the Unseen Path as well.
