Private Merle was a rebel soldier in the Rebel Camp in Stranglethorn Vale. He was secretly still loyal to Colonel Kurzen. He learned of Private Thorsen's mission to infiltrate Kurzen's Compound and gather intelligence and arranged to have him killed. However, Thorsen survived and the rebels soon learned of Merle's true allegiance. He spawned after completing 
[37] Patrol Schedules, whereby you learn of his betrayal, and he runs out of the camp, vowing vengeance. He will either be killed by the camp guards or by some undead if he makes it to the edge of nearby Duskwood.
