Nexus-King Salhadaar (/sæl.həˈdɑːɹ/ sal-hə-DAHR) was once the ruler of the people of K'aresh, until Dimensius the All-Devouring ravaged their homeworld and scattered them across the Twisting Nether. Salhadaar lead the group that became the ethereals and began a crusade against the Void Lord. In truth, however, he served the All-Devouring and radicalized members of the Ethereum into becoming the Shadowguard to revive his master.

History

The Doom of K'aresh

WoW-novel-logo-16x62.png This section concerns content related to the Warcraft novels, novellas, or short stories.

Long ago, Salhadaar was the High Priest of the planet K'aresh and the leader of the Council of Oracles, the K'areshi ruling class. One of his closest confidants was the Soul-Scribe. When the Radiant Song swept across their world, a technomancer began investigating it and the Void. He presented his findings to the Council, but they did not believe him. Salhadaar condemned him for researching matters beyond his purview and neglecting his work on the Reshii Ribbons. He warned the technomancer that if he did not cease his research, their next meeting would be more difficult.

In truth, Salhadaar did believe him and tasked his agent, Nari, with bringing him before the Ravel, a collection of the sharpest K'areshi minds, to discuss the matter further. He explained that they had staged the farce to avoid spreading panic among the masses. The Ravel pledged their support and inducted him into their ranks, granting him the name Locus-Walker.

The warnings proved true, and the skies of K'aresh darkened as the void gathered around their world. Salhadaar and the Oracles put forth a plan to banish the long-lasting night, while Locus-Walker focused on stopping the coming danger. As Locus-Walker continued his work, some among them doubted him, but Salhadaar continued to support him. When Locus-Walker revealed that a void lord named Dimensius was coming to consume K'aresh's worldsoul, he presented a plan to use the Reshii Ribbons to power barrier reactors he had designed to withstand Dimensius' attack. Salhadaar realized that such a plan would require immense labor and revealing the truth to their people. The Ravel debated Locus-Walker's plan, but despite the protests of some, Salhadaar ordered that construction begin immediately and relinquished command of the Ravel to Locus-Walker.

The barriers proved successful and allowed their city-states to survive, while the rest of K'aresh was assaulted by the void. As months passed within the barriers, the K'areshi began being afflicted by the Wasting, forcing them to wrap their decaying forms with bandages. Locus-Walker believed this to be their salvation and proposed they transmute their people into beings of energy, allowing them to leave K'aresh and traverse the Great Dark Beyond to search for a new home. The Ravel debated his plan once more, but Salhadaar remained undecided and asked for time to consider. Not waiting for the High Priest's approval, Locus-Walker and Nari sought to gather the unused ribbons, but Salhadaar had already seized them. Rumors began circulating that he was no longer calling himself High Priest and had a grand announcement planned.

When Salhadaar addressed his subjects, standing by him were Bilaal and Soul-Scribe. He explained that while they had endured much, their greatest test was yet to come. They had to put aside their differences and unite. As such, he would no longer serve as their High Priest and declared himself their High King. He then accused Locus-Walker and his allies of conspiring against him and intentionally causing the Wasting. The people quickly turned on Locus-Walker, forcing him to flee.

Some time after, Salhadaar mysteriously ordered the shields to be lowered, which caused the Void to assault the last remaining bastions in K'aresh. Some say he broke under the weight of their inescapable end, others say the Void offered him power in exchange for his people, but the truth is known only to him.[2]

With the coming of Dimensius the All-Devouring the planet was destroyed, but Locus-Walker and Nari ultimately succeeded in turning its inhabitants into energy beings,[1] the ethereals and brokers.[3] Seeing that their world was going to be lost either way, the Ravel destroyed the planet in an attempt to kill Dimensius.[4] Deeming the Ravel traitors for their actions, Salhadaar ordered Soul-Scribe to hunt its members down.[5]

With K'aresh's destruction, Salhadaar led the ethereals into the Twisting Nether to escape. The Council of Oracles would eventually become the Ethereum, and the Oracles the Nexus-Princes.

The Burning Crusade

Nexus-King Salhadaar in The Burning Crusade.

A thousand years before the invasion of Outland, Salhadaar began a crusade of revenge against Dimensius,[6] this was however a ruse. The Nexus-King was now working for the All-Devouring, and sought out its shards scattered across the universe after Karesh's destruction. He first radicalized his followers into seeking out the fragments of Dimensius,[7] then secretly founded the Shadowguard and had those radicalized Ethereum join it as servants of the void lord.[8]

On Outland, the Ethereum was committed to 'defeating' Dimensius by any means necessary, including transforming into Void creatures themselves. The Protectorate felt that the Ethereum was going too far in its revenge and split off from them. Before he could become a Void being himself, Salhadaar was killed in Netherstorm by adventurers on the orders of Commander Ameer.[6]

The War Within

As Dimensius' servant, Salhadaar was remade by the Void and revealed himself following the death of Nexus-Prince Azir. He ordered the Wastelanders to uphold their oaths and kill the Ravel, to which Soul-Scribe reluctantly agreed.[9] Within Manaforge Omega, the Nexus-King commanded the Shadowguard to ensure the return of his master. He and his Royal Voidwing stood as the last line of defense against Azeroth's champions as they approached the All-Devouring. Upon their defeat, Xal'atath saw in Salhadaar an easily controlled servant and absorbed him, claiming that the Nexus-King should be grateful that she knows a "loyal, tractable servant" when she sees one.[10]

After being captured by Xal'atath, Salhadaar and the Shadowguard now served her.[11]

Midnight

Midnight This section concerns content related to Midnight.

Salhadaar will appear in the Voidspire.[12] After turning on Xal'atath, the fallen king Salhadaar has been made a lab rat for the very Shadowguard that he once commanded. Tortured, delirious, and overinfused with Cosmic Void. He awaits his death or a chance to win his people's freedom from Xal'atath's grasp.

Abilities

  • Spell nature wispsplode.png Gravity Flux — Explodes with arcane power, dealing 27 arcane damage.

  • Spell frost frost.png Statis — You become encased in a block of ice, protecting you from all physical attacks and spells for 6 sec, but during that time you cannot attack, move or cast spells.

Objective of

Strategy

Salhadaar can be seen gorging himself on energy, untargetable. To access the fight, you must use the Protectorate Disruptor nearby Salhadaar's three Power Conduits. Each is guarded by two Ethereum Nexus-Stalkers. Once all the conduits are disrupted Salhadaar will grow to a massive size and attack. He uses Stasis often, almost randomly, on anyone in the group, even the tank. Salhadaar's other move is his Gravity Flux spell. It's short range, but it's knockback throws you a decent height into the air, so avoid the edge when fighting. At low health, Salhadaar uses a new trick: Mirror Image. This spawns two transparent copies of Salhadaar. Each copy has about 17k health. The fight is not too difficult, but will take a little time.
