After watching the ending cinematic for Hellfire Citadel, it makes me wonder if we will be seeing these characters join us in future content. With characters from Draenor moving into future expansions the tag (Warlords of Draenor) attached to their article name will no longer make sense. To fix this I suggest we change how we handle the naming of current and future "alternate" characters.

The outcome of the vote will likely change all existing characters, not just the ones entering Azeroth.

For the record, I was fine with the (Warlords of Draenor) tag. That said, after today's Gamescom 2015 reveal it is clear that the tag will no longer be sufficient for the wiki's needs. I voted for (alternate universe) because while I'd love to type (AU), I object to the latter for two reasons.

• The tag is used mainly in fanfiction circles. While fanfiction has become much more mainstream today compared to when I joined fanfiction.net back in 2002, it's still not penetrated the general populace to the same degree as video gaming.
• It's informal speech. I'd like the proposed tag to appear more professional than that.

I don't really care for (alternate) either because, to me, it sounds and looks incomplete. (I don't want to chance any confusion as to the meaning, as well.) This leads back to my earlier statement regarding informal speech. -- Alayea (talk / contrib) 20:34, 6 August 2015 (UTC)

A few years ago we had a similar discussion regarding the characters from Thrall:_Twilight_of_the_Aspects. We decided against it because there were not enough alternate characters to justify seperate pages like they did on MemoryAlpha.... Reconsider? --LemonBaby (talk) 10:25, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

Yep I agree but instead "alternate universe" use "alternate timeline" because that's what is referred to in War Crimes, Twilight of the Aspects. "AU" could be redirect. I hesitate to use "alternate timeline" because - and I'll readily admit it may just be me - it seems more limited in scope, like we are referencing an alternate timeline for Azeroth/Draenor only instead of a distinctly separate universe. Aliok (talk) 17:21, 7 August 2015 (UTC)

From my perspective, an alternate timeline / alternate reality is in effect an "alternate universe". Also, wasn't the premise of WoD explained by Blizzard as Garrosh going back 30 years in time, changing a key event, and as a result created an "alternate universe" separate from ours? I could see why at the time it was preferred to having just a small section about the other timeline versions of people for the novels like Thrall: Twilight of the Aspects, since it was not something we'd would likely see often... until Warlords happened. I was never into having (Warlords of Draenor) used from the start, mostly cause it was so much extra to type while editing. Now there is going to be a lot of article moving around. Oki! On it. A couple of questions though. What about other characters - Taretha and Krasus? Can they get their own alternate page? What about mentioned characters such as Arthas, Jaina, Varian, dead-Thrall, Kel'Thuzad, etc... currently their roles in the alternate timeline are mentioned in their main pages. Do these stay or can they have their own pages too? And what about the alternate... Eastern Kingdoms / Azeroth? --Mordecay (talk) 14:52, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Okay so I'm doing the characters now but not the alternate pages for factions and areas as the info is covered in the characters pages. Alternate-tota Orgrim won't have an article as there is the alternate-wod page and it would be only one sentence about him being killed by Aedelas instead of Lothar. Once the characters are finished I'll link them with their main universe counterparts using {foralt} on top (or in the Trivia section?). Also, is it right to have - Category:Alternate universe characters - or should it be WoD exclusive?--Mordecay (talk) 09:17, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
