I present to you, dear reader, the worm.
Eyeless, noseless, and devoid of petty things like sentience or sapience, the worm is a creature born in the darkness with an endless desire to feed.
It is aware of its surroundings through reverberations and resonances. In this way it has laid low armies of wanton guests, consumed vast hosts of parasites or invasive growths, and survived, content in its gluttony.
