Gossip

Have you come to hear a tale, traveler?

Gossip I'd like to hear the Tale of the Gleamfisher.

Elder Nava says: Many tides ago, Kauriq the Gleamfisher found this inlet and the Gleamfish.
Elder Nava says: While the fish were good, the river to Iskaara was treacherous, with many falls and rapids. No boat made it through in one piece! How would she get the Gleamfish to Iskaara, she wondered?
Elder Nava says: Concerned for Iskaara and its famine, Kauriq communed with the spirits of the area--Kraunot, Spirit of the Mountain Wind, and Otu'rorq, Spirit of the Tumultuous River.
Elder Nava says: Did she seek to help Iskaara, they asked? Or did she seek glory for her own name? They tested her in combat, and gave her their blessing, to protect the boat from the violence of the river.
Elder Nava says: And so she departed, sailing over massive falls and white, foaming rapids. She sped past vicious gnolls and hungry bears. All the way to Iskaara she went, to bring them our Gleamfish!
Elder Nava says: Iskaara was saved thanks to Kauriq's Gleamfish... but her pride wanted more. She wanted to show Iskaara how great the Gleamlet and her blessed boat were. She took the boat out to sea, pushing the blessing of the Spirits to show off its greatest speed.
Elder Nava says: Kauriq skimmed across the ocean surf faster than a dragon's flight. She boasted she could outpace dolphins, whales, or even Niliuq, the Spirit of the Ocean!
Elder Nava says: All the boastful laughter woke the sleeping Niliuq. She arose, irritated by this foolish tuskarr and her foolish claims. And with one great crash of a wave, she capsized the blessed boat and sent both it and Kauriq to the shore... in pieces.
Elder Nava says: Kauriq learned an important lesson in respect for the spirits. Had she heeded the words of Kraunot and Otu'rorq, she would have realized a spirit's blessing was not an excuse to hunt for glory. But her pride turned to arrogance, and her arrogance insulted a Great Spirit.
Elder Nava says: Now, her spirit rests within this stone. The mistakes she made in life and the many years watching over her people have made her wise. We seek her council to make sure none will ever do such a thing again.

Gossip I'd like to hear the history of the Kauriq Gleamlet.

Elder Nava says: Ah, little Poko is working on her telling of that tale. Go ahead, Poko.
Poko clears her throat.
Poko says: A long time ago, when mists fell on our land, we lost contact and trade with other tribes.
Poko says: Iskaara got really low on fish with no one to trade to. And the seas were changing, and they were gonna starve!
Poko says: One really brave tuskarr, Kauriq, went up the river looking for more fish!
Poko says: She climbed over rock and hill, facing down dangerous animals and fe-fewrocious gnolls. And then she noticed the river water upstream--it glittered!
Poko says: So she followed the gleam in the water all the way to an i-inlwet. The riverbed there was made of sparkly crystal!
Poko says: Feeling hungry, she caught some fish. But THESE fish were plump and delicious and... shining! When she bit into one, she felt really strong and powerful!
Poko says: She decided to call the fish Gleamfish. Soon after, she brought her family up from Iskaara to live here--the Kauriq Gleamlet. The fish keep us strong and wise, and we share them with our sister tribes whenever we can!
Elder Nava says: Great work, Poko.
