Echoing Orb

The Echoing Orbs are a series of mysterious orbs sought out by paladin adventurers during the course of their Season of Discovery campaign. They contain dark powers.

An unknown entity somewhere beyond the Twisting Nether was watching Azeroth through an orb found in the Tower of Althalaxx. The Knights of the Silver Hand didn't know what to do of it and required help from the secretive warlock coven of Stormwind City to destroy it because it was impervious to most damage.

An unknown group, with spies among the SI:7 and Silver Hand, tried to trap a paladin with the promise of leading them to a mysterious merchant possessing an Echoing Orb. One of them posed as Elrick, a fake paladin, and was supported by other goons. This trail ended up cold.

Another actual orb surfaced in Kalimdor when Aeonas the Vindicated ended up collaborating with the death knight Gregory to recover an orb from the Mannoroc Coven in Desolace. Gregory then revealed much about Echoing Orbs. Each of the Echoing Orbs is attuned to a different aspect of its master and the method used to destroy the Althalaxx Orb would not be effective on the orb they possessed. As Gregory performed the ritual to destroy the orb, he revealed that the adventurer's death was to be the final component, considering it a necessary sacrifice to destroy the orb. Aeonas, lamenting that he had let himself be blinded by hope, struck Gregory down with the Light. With no known way to destroy it, the orb ended up being stored in the Silver Hand's deepest vault.

Notes

• It is unknown yet who is the true master of the orbs, but both known orbs were gathered in places with ties to the Shadow Council, and Gregory was on a quest to destroy weapons of the Burning Legion for the Scourge.
