Balzaphon was a lich mini-boss in Stratholme that spawned during the Scourge Invasion event of 2006 and 2008.
Balzaphon was a lich in purple robes that wandered in a circle around the fountain in the courtyard to the left of the service entrance in Stratholme. He had glowing blue eyes.
Abilities
- [Frostbolt]: Standard Frostbolt that slows the movement of the player with aggro. He had a one second cast time.
- [Fear]: Cast at about 30% health. Lasted for 5 seconds or until dispelled.
Strategy
This boss was by far the easiest boss to kill in Stratholme, and was soloable by a skilled player. He cast rapid-fire frostbolts and had a weak physical attack. He had around 15000 HP. If you were a hunter, you could [Feign Death] past the first group of undead at the service gate, then have a straight pull at Balzaphon. Rogues and druids would be able to [Stealth] past the group to get to him. Other classes would have to fight through the first set of mobs to get to him. His low HP and resistance made him easily farmable and all three items seemed to have about equal drop rates.
He was later moved further into that area. Once you cleared the opening AoE pull and headed left under the bridge, you would have two AoE pulls to the right, as well as an abomination and a patrolling ghoul. He was all the way to the right. Because you had to do the AoE pulls, a 3-man party was recommended.
