Trivia

  • This talent was mentioned in the April Fools' Day patch 8.6.7.5309 notes: "Auspicious Spirits has been increased. It is now 40% more auspicious."

Patch changes

  • Dragonflight Patch 10.1.0 (2023-05-02): Now causes [Shadowy Apparitions] to have a chance to generate 1 Insanity (was always generate 1). Moved to row 8 (was row 7). No longer a choice node with [Tormented Spirits].
  • Dragonflight Patch 10.0.0 (2022-10-25): Now generates 1 Insanity (was 1). Now a row 7 Shadow talent (was a level 40 Shadow talent).
  • Shadowlands Patch 9.0.2 (2020-11-17): Now generates 2 Insanity (was 1) and its damage increase to Shadowy Apparitions has been reduced to 15% (was 30%).
  • Shadowlands Patch 9.0.1 (2020-10-13): Now available at level 40 (was 75).
  • Battle for Azeroth Patch 8.3.0 (2020-01-14): Damage bonus reduced to 25% (was 50%).
Developers' notes: The multiplicative interaction between Auspicious Spirits, [Spiteful Apparitions], and [Chorus of Insanity] has specifically been a big part of Shadow's damage scaling to get out of control at high target counts. This change will keep their damage output in line with its original intention.
  • Battle for Azeroth Patch 8.2.0 (2019-06-25): Damage bonus reduced to 50% (was 70%).
Developers' notes: Due to the types of encounters in Tides of Vengeance, Shadow Priests were especially strong when compared to similar DoT specializations. As such, we're slightly pulling back on the abilities that proc Shadowy Apparition.
  • Battle for Azeroth Hotfix (2019-04-23): Damage bonus reduced to 70% (was 100%).
Developers' notes: The damage reduction to this talent is meant to curb the synergy of Insanity and Shadowy Apparition generation when combined with some Azerite traits, while still leaving it as a fun and interesting combo.
  • Battle for Azeroth Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Now generates 2 Insanity per Apparition (was 3).
  • Legion Patch 7.1.5 (2017-01-10): Now generates 3 Insanity per Apparition (was 4).
  • Legion Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): Now causes Shadowy Apparitions to generate Insanity instead of granting [Shadow Orbs]. Now available at level 75 (was 100).
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.1.0 (2015-02-24): No longer causes Shadowy Apparitions to not deal damage. Instead, it now increases Shadowy Apparition damage by 100% in addition to still granting 1 Shadow Orb per Apparition.
  • Warlords of Draenor Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Added.
