A projection of the Arcanomicon on the Surge Needle.

The Arcanomicon is a map of all of the magical ley line intersections on Azeroth.[1] It was gifted to Malygos ages ago by the titan Norgannon and was continuously updated and revised by the blue dragons during Malygos' long seclusion.[2] During the Nexus War, the blue dragonflight used the Arcanomicon to locate and destroy ley line anchors in order to divert their arcane energies back to the Nexus. The mage hunters maintained a projection of the Arcanomicon atop the Surge Needle above the Moonrest Gardens.[1][2]

Notes and trivia

  • Only a projection of it is ever confirmed to be seen. It is not certain if the Arcanomicon exists as an object in the traditional sense.
  • The name is likely inspired by the Necronomicon from the Cthulhu Mythos.

Speculation

This article or section includes speculation, observations or opinions possibly supported by lore or by Blizzard officials. It should not be taken as representing official lore.

Given the description of the titans in Chronicle Volume 1, Norgannon may not have directly given the Arcanomicon to Malygos. The titans had already departed Azeroth by the time the Dragon Aspects were empowered. It's likely that it was instead the keepers that empowered the Aspects (specifically Loken) who gave it to Malygos.
