Aravan Salonar was a young high elf noble and a member of the House of Salonar. Years before the Great Wars, Aravan and his brother Rendris attended a party at Saltheril's Haven. They were joking about Lirath Windrunner and his lean build, inability to fight, and how he would use the flute in a duel. Sylvanas Windrunner overhead the jokes and intended to give them drinks with woundwood, but Lord Saltheril and Elisara Sunstriker drank them instead.

During the burning of Quel'Thalas, Windrunner Village came under attack from the Old Horde and their Amani troll allies. They slaughtered most of the elves there, including Aravan. After the Horde retreated, Sylvanas arrived and discovered the dead.
