A Symbol of Hope is the second quest in the final chapter of the Chains of Domination campaign, "What Lies Ahead", at Renown 58.

Objectives

Assist Jaina in examining Anduin's compass.

Description

Before Anduin followed the Jailer through the gateway, he dropped something.

I don't think this was part of the Jailer's plan. It must be a sign that Anduin's soul is still his own!

<Jaina opens her hand to show you a golden compass.>

This was very personal to Anduin. I feel his presence upon it.

We need to know why he left it for us.

Rewards

You will receive:

Progress

If Anduin was able to leave this for us to find, then some part of him must still be free from the Jailer's domination...

Completion

<Tears fall from Jaina's eyes.>

We cannot lose him, <name>. No matter what it takes.

Notes

Channeling on the compass
The Enchanted Compass
On accept
Thrall says: Jaina, what was it that Anduin left behind?
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: A compass. It was a gift to his father. Varian had it with him just before... before we fought the Legion on the Broken Shore.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: I don't believe Anduin dropped it by accident. He must have wanted us to find it.
Thrall says: As a sign that he hasn't been fully dominated by the Jailer's power?
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: I believe it's more than that. I sense an enchantment on the compass. Perhaps Anduin used the Light to leave us a message.
Jaina and Thrall walk over to a nearby flat boulder.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: Bolvar, will you help us examine the compass?
Bolvar joins them.
Highlord Bolvar Fordragon says: Of course, Jaina.
Jaina and Bolvar start channeling on the compass.
Highlord Bolvar Fordragon says: The compass is imbued with a memory.
Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: I sense it too. Very clever, Anduin! What did you want us to see...
They stop channeling.

Jaina has some gossip text:

Anduin... I swear by the Light, we will not lose him to Jailer.[sic]

Examine the Enchanted Compass on top of the boulder to trigger a cutscene:

The compass opens, glowing with Light, and creates images of Sylvanas and Anduin.
Sylvanas Windrunner says: The battle is almost upon us.
Sylvanas Windrunner says: I will deal with the invading forces atop Torghast.
Sylvanas Windrunner says: When we reach Oribos, you will defend Zovaal while he completes the ritual.
Anduin Wrynn says: You mean he will compel me to defend him.
Anduin Wrynn says: Each time he dominates my will, I feel myself slipping further away.
Anduin Wrynn says: Is this what you felt when Arthas raised you, Sylvanas?
Anduin Wrynn says: Hollow. Empty. Everything you once were... consumed by darkness.
Sylvanas Windrunner says: Yes, young lion. But in the end, the sacrifices we've made will have been worth it.
Sylvanas Windrunner says: Once the cycle of Life and Death has been broken and remade, we will--
Anduin Wrynn says: By that time, I'll have been lost. And so will you.
Anduin Wrynn says: I only hope my friends will remember me as I was...
Anduin Wrynn says: Not what you made me to be.
The compass closes, ending the vision.

On the other side of the cutscene:

Lady Jaina Proudmoore says: No, Anduin. We won't lose you. I swear it!
