Drops

Hey! While your eagerness is appreciated, we don't generally add zone/world drops to the loot tables of single mobs. So in this case the quest items were zone drops, that have been removed with 8.0.1. The misc items, and the rare pickpocketing item are all obtained by pickpocketing humanoids in the Broken Isles. It also seems to me, going by wowhead numbers, that the consumables are listed with a 0.01% drop chance, which would have me believe that it's probably a faulty aoe-loot that had wowhead confused. PeterWind (talk) 14:13, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Oh wait, the consumables are only obtained through pickpocketing. Probably fine to list those :) PeterWind (talk) 14:18, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Hello there, I'm sorry for delaying I didn't seen the notification bell at first I was viewing some pages that had ... in descriptions Y nobody edits those articles???

I seen that you deleted some of the infos that I added in, i'm sorry if I caused trouble, i'm not really aware of WoW updates.

So can I list Consumables this term is used for foods & drinks McDonald's! but they been removed in 8.0.1 by any changes?

I'm a newbie, sorry, you can teach me what I can do and I can't do, I would be thanked by that, and I actually like when someone corrects my mistakes (but I don't like criticism).

Thank you! Silviu200530 (talk) 14:44, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Don't worry. It's no trouble, and we all have to start somewhere! But yeah we still have many articles that are not as complete as they could be. Even with editors working every day, there is just so many things to add. A good starting point, I think, would be to check Things to do. Unless you already have an idea of what you want to work on. Item drops is a good a place as any though! A good way to get a feel, is to take a look around at how it's handled on other pages. Seeing as we link to databases like Wowhead and WoWDB, we don't need to fulfill the role of database ourselves. That way we usually trim down the drop sections to just the drops that are relatively unique. So in that sense, it is not a problem to list consumables that drop from a mob, as long as that food item doesn't also drop from 500 other mobs. As an example you can look at Goldtooth and Blackmaw Warrior. For Goldtooth, the three quest items are listed, and one poor item. We don't usually list world drops, as the databases already do that.  [A Gold Tooth] only drops from Goldtooth, so that one is good to mention. However items like  [Brocade Cloak] are world drops, and will generally drop from any mob in the correct level range, so we don't bother listing that one. As you can see on wowhead, they too, only list the first 200 sources. In the case of the furbolg, its only important drop is  [Briaroot Brew], a quest item. You don't have to list that things as quest items/consumables in the drop lists, as simply hovering above a link will display the stats/details of the item. I hope this clears up a few things. Otherwise just ask and I or others will try to clear up details for you on questions you may have. PeterWind (talk) 18:08, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Alright, thank you! Silviu200530 (talk) 19:53, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

Don't worry, everyone started as a newbie :D Xporc (talk) 21:33, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

So true, firstly I started on fandom a wikia about a video game, the only active admin there banned me for thinking that I'm trolling lol. Silviu200530 (talk) 06:45, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Again, be mindful of the things you add as drops. Things like  [Shal'dorei Silk] drop from thousands of different mobs, so it's not really something worth listing on all those pages. The same is the case for  [Rogue's Draught] which is pickpocketed from at least a few hundred different mobs. In those cases it is better to keep the details on the source for the items on the pages for the items. PeterWind (talk) 00:08, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Not even it is important in combats? Noted. Silviu200530 (talk) 05:01, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

I have a question: Can we merge Helsquid page in the Category:Helsquids? They are the same thing, but of course we don't put Notable Creatures there since it's below the category, we can aswell proceed for all beast pages, but if something is missing I suggest linking it in the category page. Silviu200530 (talk) 11:40, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Are you suggesting to either have no category, or have no page for the race itself? I think it would be a no to either, unless I'm misunderstanding. PeterWind (talk) 15:46, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

??? So in case I'm very I-don't-know-how-to-explain-myself, I will just go with images.

Please see: [1] But also: [2]

I didn't read the sentence fully, unfortunately... My idea is also to Redirect Helsquid to Category:Helsquids, so we also have a page and also a category below it.

Silviu200530 (talk) 17:43, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Hmm I don't think that's a good idea. I'm also still not sure why you want this. As it is, the two are seperated for a reason. Categories are meant to be quick and easy. Which is why typically the category descriptions are kept brief. Where the race pages go more in depth, where possible. Of course we don't have too much real info on these squids yet. Still, categories shouldn't be bloated. PeterWind (talk) 18:30, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

For me it seemed to be simple, I also taught that you can add a new species by only adding the category to it, but I guess you can't fill a thing with something else. Silviu200530 (talk) 19:09, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Well think about consistency. It doesn't make much sense to apply something like this, just one place. Say, you want to take a look at human characters, but first you have to scroll all the way through the page about humans. And then, in cases where what you're looking for isn't on page one, you click onwards to page two, and you have to scroll past it all again. There may be rare occasions where we link to categories directly, like with barrels. But it's really only in cases like this, where there is really nothing to say that wouldn't just be a list of known examples. PeterWind (talk) 20:26, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Images

Heya, to answer your question, although this picture looks like the serpent from Zul'Gurub, as far I can tell based on the background (cave), the picture isn't of the Zul'Gurub serpents, hence its removal. --Mordecay (talk) 13:35, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Ah, now I understand, thank you! Silviu200530 (talk) 14:02, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

While we're at it, I also removed File:Bloodseeker bat Icon.png from the related bat page, because typically such stuff isn't necessary :p Xporc (talk) 23:15, 19 January 2019 (UTC)

Alright then, but what if peoples are curious of how the icon of the monster looked like? Silviu200530 (talk) 06:40, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Isn't the icon just the monster's face? As long as the infobox screenshot is good enough, an icon shouldn't really be necessary Xporc (talk) 08:21, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
Yeah, good infobox pictures are preferable. Ofc, if you see a page without one, or one that can be improved, feel free to give it a go. You can check our guidelines for info on screenshots in general. PeterWind (talk) 14:11, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Oh, another tip: when you upload a picture, you have to select a license from the available list that shows up in the UI. For files such as File:Shadowprey Orca.jpg, for example, you're supposed to select the "Mob" license. Xporc (talk) 18:00, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Well, too bad, it didn't bother to show up. Silviu200530 (talk) 18:03, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

It's here: File:Licensing selector.jpg Xporc (talk) 21:16, 21 January 2019 (UTC)
But yeah, while uploading whatever Wowhead has, solves the immediate problem of us not having a screenshot, it also typically means, that the screenshot will either have a watermark, or be a lot smaller, due to simply cropping their thumbnail picture. The best is for us to grab our own screenshots. Ofc, in cases with removed topics, we'll have to take what we can get. A good standard, for mob/NPC screenshots would be something like this. Clear focus on the fully visible NPC, not a whole lot of clutter, and no UI overlapping. PeterWind (talk) 00:27, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Alright then, noted. Silviu200530 (talk) 05:03, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Could you take another look at the guidelines? Several of your latest screenshots have been both very small, and also included NPC names. PeterWind (talk) 17:30, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Do you want me to include the NPCS in a 100x100 square gyazzo screenshot? Silviu200530 (talk) 17:31, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Just try to follow the guidelines here really. It's good that you are active, but it'd be even better if you took screenshots that wouldn't need replacement ;-) PeterWind (talk) 17:42, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Mmmm, alright. Silviu200530 (talk) 17:47, 8 January 2020 (UTC)
Please, can you try to take larger screenshots? Many of your later shots are so tiny you can barely see any details. PeterWind (talk) 15:59, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
Um, no. Those mobs that I keep screenshoting have no time to just sit in one place and I also need to keep at bay because if they aggro me they will just show their swimming animation futhermore they will come too close to me and I can't screenshot myself also. Silviu200530 (talk) 07:19, 26 January 2020 (UTC)
Look man, all these "old models" or "out of date" cleanup notices on your pictures, they are people passively trying to tell you that a lot of your screenshots are not good enough. Like seriously, File:Slain Cannoneer.png is very small. Xporc (talk) 13:52, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
Well, I'm playing a older version of those and I can't do anything about it and alright sure replace them if you can, how is the slain cannoneer simply not too small? (Her model is literally this small, What I'm supposed to do?) that's simply nitpicking but anyways thank you. Silviu200530 (talk) 17:10, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
You could try physically getting closer to it and zooming. File:Twilight Cryptomancer.png is another example of a problematic picture. Xporc (talk) 17:41, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
I'm going to try to use the Stream client to do screenshot and crop them with Gyazzo, if that doesn't work either then I'll leave the future pages without a graphical representation about the character. Silviu200530 (talk) 17:47, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
You can also try the  [Ornate Spyglass]. See if that helps. Easiest way is just using a class that can stealth, in order to get good close-ups. PeterWind (talk) 05:17, 8 February 2020 (UTC)
Oh, I forgot that WoW has most items that can help you out, now let me see how I can obtain it in the version I'm playing. Silviu200530 (talk) 06:49, 8 February 2020 (UTC)

Abilities

By the way, this this is how we usually display mob abilities for consistency, so you can use the appropriate "ability" template to make your life easier! Xporc (talk) 08:30, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Thank you! And remember that I joined few days so please don't go harsh on me, thank you again! Silviu200530 (talk) 08:33, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Early on there will always be a lot of corrections or pointers. It's all well meant though! :) PeterWind (talk) 14:11, 20 January 2019 (UTC)
Yeah don't worry, we're not harsh, we're just trying to make your life easier :p Xporc (talk) 16:14, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Ty :D Silviu200530 (talk) 05:03, 22 January 2019 (UTC)

Forgot to tell the reason, but some abilities for this one are available under the effect of the cauldrons. So the relations is shown by the bullets as they are now. --Mordecay (talk) 17:32, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Ah now I see the difference, I don't really know why I didn't notice it, thanks for telling me. Silviu200530 (talk) 17:37, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

The icon names on Wowhead are sometimes incorrect, especially if it involves a use of a dash ( - ). It is best to just change them to a underscore ( _ ) to get the image that is already uploaded on Wowpedia. You can also see the full list of icons here: Category:WoW Icons. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 15:23, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Thank you for telling me, I desperately needed this information as soon as I realized that it was a mistake, thank you for telling me and this information is noted. Silviu200530 (talk) 15:33, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Any time, always happy to help! — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 15:46, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Sorry if I cause any trouble, I joined this community a month ago, I'm a little bit of a newbie and sorry and of course I learn from my mistakes. :) Silviu200530 (talk) 16:09, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
It is all good! Everyone has to start as a newbie anyways and learn and grow from it; I've been there! If you have any questions, feel free to ask! One little hint I can point out for you: when replying to comments, you can use colons ( : ) to indent your comment. It helps makes the discussion easier to read! — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 16:18, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
Alright thank you :) Silviu200530 (talk) 16:20, 31 January 2019 (UTC)

Stubs

As per what it says on {{Stub}}, please see Wowpedia:Stub § Details on stubs for the list of stubs to use instead. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 12:53, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

I wasn't aware that I also need to specify the stub, thank you for the link. Silviu200530 (talk) 13:12, 11 May 2019 (UTC)

Zone templates

Hey! The enthusiasm is as always appreciated, but usually subzones don't really need infoboxes if they aren't stand alone compounds/cities. Much the same as how the Trade District in Stormwind City doesn't, and the individual shops have none either. What can be said about the districts or temples in Zul'Gurub is better just kept in the main text or in the infobox on the page for the city itself. PeterWind (talk) 23:58, 20 July 2019 (UTC)

Oh, and while on the topic, instead of uploading pics like this, which would still need a license, it would be better to use the Coords template, if you feel descritions of access isn't enough. PeterWind (talk) 00:11, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
Wait what?? I think the template was called Subzone template and those fit as a subzone, anyways thank you for the information. Silviu200530 (talk) 07:29, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
Also why did you deleted the highlighted maps? Not many users understand the direction written on the map, they might not know where is the Rise of Zansa or something like that. Silviu200530 (talk) 09:36, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
For the maps, the {{Coords}} template would be better to point out its location. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 12:15, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
With the "Coords" template you can simply hover above the coordinates to see where on the map the given location is, once map and placement has been designated. It is not that the highlighted maps are bad per se, it's just a way to prevent bloating the pages, so as not to have an extra copy of every map uploaded for each subzone or otherwise noteworthy location. Jintha'Alor is a good example for both the zone infobox and the coords template. While it is subzone, it is also a city, and thus it gets an infobox. In this example the coords are placed in the infobox, but in most cases, the coords would just be placed in the main text, similarly where the general zone is mentioned. PeterWind (talk) 14:33, 21 July 2019 (UTC)

Item descriptions

Hey, when updating item pages, could you try to not omit how the items are obtained? If the page says that an item is provided as an objective, try to incorporate that in some way, in your updated description. PeterWind (talk) 14:32, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Ahh, I honestly didn't gave it much thought because... for example just pick a quest item and you will find the same old basic This item is provided from x in the quest y but anyways thank you for telling me. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Silviu200530 (talk · contr).
Yeah no worries! PeterWind (talk) 14:44, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Recent edits

Hey, your recent edits are removing some content that shouldn't be removed and are adding unnecessary <br> tags. When removing the stubs, just remove it instead of adding a break line and don't remove Quests/"As an objective" sections from articles. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 13:33, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

About the quest sections, I see what you're doing so disregard that; just keep in mind about the break line. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 13:37, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Alright, I will keep in mind about the br, I'm also seeing that the message with REPEATED VIOLATION WILL RESULT IN A BAN HAVE A NICE DAY :) is being replaced, do you wish that I replace that aswell to not appear as passive aggressive? Silviu200530 (talk) 13:40, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
If you happen to come across those, yes do feel free to replace them with {{subst:el}}. It'll automatically add in the new template. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 13:43, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
I feel the progress is rather tedious for a human, maybe we should get a bot fixing all of those issues? I'm sure pretty much everything that has e-links will have that message... Silviu200530 (talk) 13:48, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
It really isn't worth it to use a bot to deal with it. It even has been done before by a bot, but only got a handful of articles. Feel free to do it yourself as you come across them, but don't feel obligated to do it. — SurafbrovWarcraft Wiki administrator T / C 13:52, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Alright, thank you. Silviu200530 (talk) 13:55, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

DNP content

hello, i'm gonna have to ask you to stop uploading private server screenshots, as they fall under our Do Not Post policy. private servers are against the WoW terms of service and content from them is not allowed on Wowpedia.

thank you. Eithris (talk) 17:13, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Uhhh, I'm sorry for the inconvenience, most of my uploads are screenshots from that private server and I thought this whole time it was okay as it's content regarding the game~ now what are we going to do? Is documenting behavior of the mobs from the privates okay? I mean some of the info matches the quests... And also I still believe it's redundant to add As a quest objective because the (Alliance/Horde/Neutral) banner and the level marker [Number] makes those same users view what the said item is for considering if you look slightly above... Suraf appears that he agreed with the idea, so what do you think?

Now, it seems to be quite the situations regarding the photos in questions tho, thank you and sorry. Silviu200530 (talk) 17:32, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

There's a chance the content on the private server matches that of the live servers. We can't be sure however, and so instead of judging by every single case, we're just calling the rule as such. No private server content. PeterWind (talk) 17:54, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
yeah. that, and the rule is primarily about abiding by blizzard's rules. even if the info's accurate, we cannot condone the use of private servers.
as for the quest objective thing... i guess to me, putting everything into the lead section just makes it unnecessarily difficult to skim. it does have the faction icon and level to show that it's a quest, but it's not nearly as eye-catching when it's surrounded by other text. Eithris (talk) 18:01, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
I suppose that's something purely subjective that requires AB testing, do we conserve the traditions with subheaders or shove everything into the lead? Now we will need to remove most of the content I progressed into this wikia~ as most of the information I took was from the private itself, sorry for the challenge... maybe this is a strength test and Xuen will probable be summoned on this encyclopedia, who knows? Anyways, once again, thank you and sorry. Silviu200530 (talk) 18:13, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
All good! A large part is also just a matter of consistency in formatting. PeterWind (talk) 18:38, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, although I don't know what you actually feel beyond the screen, I'm going to assume that there's no negative emotions. Thank you, the world needs you guys. Silviu200530 (talk) 19:01, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Do I mark the DNP files with a speedy delete tag on them saying is a private server screenshot? Silviu200530 (talk) 20:18, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
