Prophet Sin'gurath is the first boss encounter in the Depths of Nightmare.

Background

Over the centuries, Prophet Sin'gurath has made several prophecies about Azeroth, many of which has been proven true. These prophecies range from the Titan's arrival to the eventual lost of immortality of the Aspects. Recently, he has made another prophecy, much more dreadful than before.

Abilities

Prophet Sin'gurath has a hard enrage timer of 10 minutes on LFR and Normal mode. This time limit is reduced to 9 minutes on Heroic mode.

  • Spell shadow shadowbolt.png Shadow Lash  —  A permanent buff on Prophet Sin'gurath. Melee attacks have an 80% chance to inflict an additional 70,000 Shadow damage and apply a stacking buff that increases the damage dealt by Shadow Lash by 5000. Lasts 5 sec. Heroic Difficulty Deals half damage but stacking buff lasts 1 minute.
  • Spell shadow painspike.png Devastation Bolt  — Important Launches a massive shadow missile towards a random target outside of 15 yards. The missile smashes into them inflicting 100,000 (LFR: 50,000 /Heroic Difficulty: 200,000) Shadow damage and causes any enemies within 10 yards to empower the missile. Deals an additional 20% damage per extra target hit and causes all enemies to suffer the resulting damage. This attack will be used on the Prophet's current target if there are less than 3/7(10/25) targets outside of 15 yards. Instant cast, 20 sec cooldown. Heroic Difficulty Fires a missle towards a secondary target.
  • Spell shadow dispersion.png Crushing Void  — Healer Alert Engulfs a target in dreadful shadows, stunning them and dealing 25,000 (Heroic Difficulty: 50,000) Shadow damage every 0.5 sec for 10 sec. When this effect fades or its target dies, it will jump to random target within 10 yards and deal 50% increased damage. Instant cast, 30 sec cooldown. Not used on LFR difficulty.
  • Inv misc shadowegg.png Void Portal  — Damage Dealer AlertHealer AlertImportant Blasts an area near a random target, dealing 80,000 (LFR: 40,000 /Heroic Difficulty: 160,000) Shadow damage and knocking all nearby enemies away. A Void Portal opens for 30 seconds allowing access to another realm. 8 sec cast. 90 sec cooldown.Heroic Difficulty Every 10% health Sin'gurath loses causes him to unleash two portals. Cast time becomes instant.
    • Ability druid twilightswrath.png Essence of the Void  — Important While in the Void Portal, all players are affected with Essence of the Void, suffering 5,000 Shadow damage every 0.5 sec. In addition, the cost on all abilities and spells is reduced by 100% and all Shadow damage taken is increased by 25%. Lasts 30 seconds on players after they have left the portal. This effect refreshes itself on all affected players when they exit the portal. No more than 6/12 (10/25) players are allowed to enter a Void Portal on LFR and Normal mode.Heroic Difficulty All players are allowed into the portal instead of a set amount. Healing effects reduced by 20%.
  • Spell shadow shadowpower.png Shadow Rage  — Heroic DifficultyTank Alert Prophet Sin'gurath infuses himself with unbound energy, increasing his attack speed by 200% but causes him to move 60% slower. Strategy

Prophet Sin'gurath starts off as a tank and spank boss at the beginning of the fight. His Shadow Lash buff deals healable damage but can stack high if he continues attacking for a long time. A good way to counter this attack is to taunt kite him between two tanks(OT being at max taunt range, then MT taunts back). Doing this correctly should reset the 5-second stacking buff on him.

His next ability is a single target attack known as Devastation Bolt. The obvious way to avoid its oneshotting mechanic is to spread out from one another while staying outside his 15-yard deadzone (which if enough players are close to him, he'll use this attack on the MT). The damage is healable if no extra player takes the hit with an already designated target.

Another attack used by this boss is Crushing Void. Just like Devastation Bolt, the best way to avoid this from becoming nasty is to remain spread out. Quickly heal whoever gets this debuff and when the effect expires, it shouldn't jump to another player. Again, the damage is healable if it affects one person every 30 seconds instead of it jumping from player to player albeit increasing in damage.

90 seconds into the fight, and every 90 seconds from now on, the Prophet will open up a portal near a random player. Everyone in that area will be knocked away. Afterwards, players have a 30-second window to enter the portal. However, only a certain amount of players can enter any given portal at a time. Mostly damage dealers will go into the portal but a healer will be necessary to deal with the damage.

Once inside the portal, players will be given a debuff called Essence of the Void, which removes any cost to players' spells and abilities. Use this along with any available damage cooldown to kill the add inside quickly. Once the add is dead, the debuff is refreshed (30 seconds) which is a benefit if good DPS and atleast 1 healer enters (for 25-man, bringing atleast 2 healers for the portals and the rest as dps will bring the add down quick). Prophet Sin'gurath will cease all special attacks while the portal is open. Therefore, all that needs to be managed outside during the portals is tanks taunt kiting the boss when necessary as his Shadow Lash will still be functioning.

Prophet Sin'gurath continues using his arsenal of attacks until he reaches 50% health. When this occurs, he'll summon another add known as the Void Monstrosity. Start off stacked up and with the add in the middle of the room. The Monstrosity's main attacks are Void Slice and Dark Lightning. Dark Lightning will come first so be prepared to spread out just enough that the attack doesn't chain to other players. Be warned, while Dark Lightning comes first, its 2-second cast means players have 2 seconds to group up after the lightning to split the damage from the incoming Void Slice.

Using [Bloodlust]/ [Heroism] when this phase starts will be extremely helpful in getting through it quickly and with little to no deaths. Once this add is down, its just a home stretch from 50% to 0%. Be mindful that Prophet Sin'gurath will begin using his attacks right away once the Monstrosity phase is over.

Remember to spread out for Devastation Bolt and Crushing Void attacks, taunt kite (or ping pong) to reset Shadow Lash, and enter the Void Portals to kill the add. Doing all of these will guarantee a clean kill.

Heroic Changes

Aside from an obvious health and damage increase the following has changed when Prophet Sin'gurath is fought on Heroic Mode:

  • Shadow Lash's damage is reduced to 35,000 but the stacking buff duration now lasts 1 minute, up from 5 seconds.
  • Prophet Sin'gurath now targets two players with Devastation Bolt instead of one.
  • Prophet Sin'gurath will open two Void Portals at a time instead of one and will do so every time he loses 10% health.
  • All players are allowed to enter any Void Portal when they spawn.
  • The Void Spirits that exists in the portals will share health.
  • Essence of the Void reduces healing effects by 20%.
  • Prophet Sin'gurath gains a new ability called Shadow Rage.
  • The Void Monstrosity's Void Slice will drop a void zone underneath its target.
  • When damaged to 90% health, Prophet Sin'gurath will spawn a Shadow of Sin'gurath, introducing an additional phase to the fight.
