Saavedar is the garrison under the command of General Taeril'hane Ketiron, located in the frozen wastes of Frostfire Ridge on the alternate world of Draenor. Settled shortly after the arrival of Azerothian forces battling the Iron Horde, Ketiron named it in orcish tradition after his dear friend and comrade, Saavedro of Stratholme.

Settling in a Strange Land

General Taeril'hane Ketiron, master of Saavedar

Taeril'hane Ketiron had fought in all of the major wars involving Quel'Thalas since the opening of the Dark Portal - the Second and Third Wars, the campaign against Illidan and the Burning Legion (including the traitor Prince Kael'thas) in Outland, the war against the Lich King in Northrend, the Cataclysm War, and the Pandaria campaign. From Northrend onward, he was regularly accompanied or assisted in some form by his wife, Areinnye, even following the birth of their son, Ord'taeril. Upon learning from Silvermoon magi and the occasional shaman he had contact with in Orgrimmar of the new "Iron Horde" and the time-altered world of Draenor that was now open to them, Ketiron knew that this campaign would be a long and protracted affair. To that end, he rallied what allies he had in the Horde, of all races, to assist him in constructing one of the many Horde garrisons that would arise in the new world.

When the Horde forces allied with the Frostwolf clan, which was among the few to oppose the Iron Horde, Ketiron decided to settle (as many of them did) in Frostfire Ridge, "a grand desert of snow" as he put it, and establish his base there. Despite being under the control of a blood elf nobleman, the garrison was built - as most of the Horde bases on Draenor would be - in the orcish fashion, a fact that Ketiron took no issue with. Indeed, he had a great respect for orcish tradition, especially when it came time to name the fortress. He had braced himself for opposition from those of his forces outside of House Ketiron for naming the base after a human, but to his surprise, no small few of his guard forces were veterans of the Argent Crusade who remembered Saavedro during the Northrend war, and wholeheartedly agreed with Ketiron's choice.

Despite the fact that Frostfire Ridge - indeed, probably all of Draenor - would become heavily scarred by the war to come, Ketiron elected to bring both his wife and their son, now six years old, to reside with him at Saavedar. Areinnye was hesitant at first, but Ketiron explained that their son saw so little of them, and expressed his belief that it would be better for their son to experience this new world while it was still relatively undamaged, as he foresaw that the conflict may well leave its scars on the land, just as it did in Pandaria.

The Ideal Home in the Wilderness

As a veteran commander of numerous conflicts in the last thirty years, Ketiron has built his fortress along military lines, though also emphasizing peaceful coexistence with the natives of the land he is now settled on. Though his fortress is in orcish style, his garrison troops are a diverse mix of elves from his House Guard and warriors of the other races of the Horde, mainly orcs, but no small number of tauren, troll scouts, Forsaken, and even the odd pandaren or two; all train regularly at the barracks established within the walls. His main workforce consists of orcish peons and goblin surveyors and engineers, who operate an engineering shop and the mines to produce the precious metals required for their gadgets. Another major structure is the garrison's armory, containing the weapons and armors both collected from scraps from slain iron orcs and crafted by Ketiron and his chief engineer, Kitrik.

However, going further on his hopes for peaceful trade with the natives of Draenor, he has also established a trading post where excess materials (usually metal from his mines) are exchanged for garrison supplies to further build up his fortress, as well as a salvage yard for dealing with various goods collected by his garrison soldiers. His personal possessions have been moved from his bank vaults in Silvermoon to a specially constructed storehouse, as he intends to remain on Draenor for the foreseeable future. Lastly, there is a tavern for the soldiers to socialize in while off-duty, as well as provide food and drink for visitors. Within the Great Hall of the fortress is the beginnings of a collection of archaeological artifacts collected by Ketiron as he explores Draenor.

Opposition

Professor Rakeri Sputterspark

Carrying his hatred for Saavedro to those who had been his friends or allies, Professor Rakeri Sputterspark has styled himself a "warlord" in his own right, and is Ketiron's chief enemy outside of the main campaign against the Iron Horde. The insane gnome warlock has made his base in the fortress of Shadowgarde, in Shadowmoon Valley to the southeast, on the borders of draenei territory. Under Rakeri's aegis, many disenfranchised people (including no small number of warlocks and gnomes embittered by the Alliance's continued apathy) have rallied to form a new home for themselves in the new world, far beyond the reach of the troubles (and the authorities) on Azeroth.

Ketiron has heard rumors that Rakeri is seeking to form an alliance with the Sargerei, a coven of draenei who sought to partake of the power granted to the original eredar by Sargeras in ages past, believing that the Prophet Velen (as he existed in the new Draenor) had betrayed them. The rumors have also persisted that the secretive Council of the Black Harvest has reformed following the corruption and banishment of their former leader, Kanrethad Ebonlocke, learning new skills from the powers he was able to obtain; Rakeri himself is believed to be among the membership. If true, Ketiron may find himself under the scrutiny of not only Rakeri and his immediate circle, but even the remaining warlocks within the Horde itself.
