Devlin Briarfox is a former warlock in the old Dark Hand Covenant. He was one of the core warlocks of the Inner Circle used in the summoning of demons into Azeroth and one of the most trusted minions of second in command and eventual leader of the cult, Embron.

Upon revival after a long magical hibernation, Briarfox regained full memory of the betrayal of the Dark Hand Covenant by Dalan and Krall, and sought to restore his master, Mauron. Uniting with former allies Vedric Allenhardt and Blacksaint (an entity formed through the bonding of Banisher and Embron), Briarfox was able to acquire the Grimoire of Embron, the mystical spellbook that had contained the soul of Al'Ghul and left Mauron hollow and dead.
