The Shadows[1] are a shady group of humanoid silhouettes whose goals are not entirely known. They are, however, interested in pets.
History
- Main article: Wailing Critters
The first appearance from one of their members happened during a visit to the Wailing Caverns, where critters started showing signs of deviancy. Asking a pet tamer to venture into the caverns, the Adventurer discovered a sleeping tauren who admitted that he was responsible for the goings-on in the cavern. Rather than fight, the tauren simply jumped off a cliff and escaped by using a kite as a glider.

Some time passed and this time, it would be the Deadmines causing a disturbance. The same adventurer was sent yet again and after getting to the top of the Defias juggernaught, the adventurer was confronted by a female orc. She told him, that the tauren had mentioned him and threatened him with force if he'd ever harm the tauren. She too would not fight and would leave the adventurer to fight against Cookie's Leftovers.

The next disturbance came from Gnomeregan, where mayhem started appearing all around. The same adventurer went to investigate and found a night elf interfering with the machines inside. He stunned and told the adventurer of a plan the group had been planning. He also informed him that he took something from the Pulverizer Bot Mk 6001 and left the adventurer to face off against the activated mech.

A call from Stratholme was next, where undead Scourge started making a comeback. The adventurer answered the call and made his way to the Slaughter House. Inside the building, the adventurer is confronted by a gnome and a blood elf. The gnome raised Blackmane and the two left the adventurer to deal with it.

After discovering that they were based within Blackrock Depths, the adventurer entered in order to stop them once and for all. From within the mountain, the adventurer is confronted by every single member. After defeating them, the Shadows were impressed and invited the adventurer to join them.
