Vindicator doesn't seem to mean paladin, specifically

Actually if you follow the class quest line, draenei paladins are called paladins from the start by the draenei trainers. The term vindicator doesn't actually show up until later in the quest lines. It appears to be more of an order than a class name.Baggins 11:48, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

Many paladin NPCs and in particular paladin trainers have the vindicator title. --N'Nanz 12:02, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Sure there appears to be interchangeability, but they definitely use the term "paladin" too, perhaps more often in direct speech. Its not like they separate the two. Best I can tell its a paladin order, but also a title for members within the order. It also seems that one starts out as a paladin, but one gets initiated into the order later on.Baggins 16:57, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
I think this is a racial honorific too. I do not know the quest.--SWM2448 19:23, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Could just be for the convenience of players new to the Draenei, who don't know what a vindicator is. And while i personally think that a vindicator is just their term for a paladin, i do like your theory of it just being the title for a member of the Hand of Argus.--Truckman1 17:35, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Is it certain that the DF class is what the Draenei are referring to?--SWM2448 00:59, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

One year after writing this, i have another comment to add: While not all Draenei paladins are necessarily Vindicators, all of them would match the criteria to become one should they so choose. After all, there is probably not a Draenei alive who hasn't personally been subjected to a friend or family member dying at the hands of the Horde or the Legion. Furthermore, most people in this world have lost friends of family members to some enemy or another. --Truckman1 22:50, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
They may match the criteria, but are they? I do not know. Clarity would be nice.--SWM2448 03:13, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

So, again, is this really what all the draenei (except the class trainer) mean when they call themselves "vindicators"? It fits somewhat, but I think it is just a synonym for paladin or a racial honorific for paladins. And does everything else in WoW called a "vindicator" really have this class?-SWM2448 02:36, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Bringing up an old topic, but Vindicator Enkallus is a shaman with the vindicator title.--Ijffdrie (talk) 21:52, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

"He and the other Vindicators, holy warriors of the Light, would fight to the very last." From Unbroken.--Cemotucu (talk) 15:18, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, yes, but that was also before the introduction of shamanism in draenei society, so something could have changed after that. Maybe the shaman is a former paladin who learned the elements but kept his title? --Ijffdrie (talk) 15:37, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
I think the same. All the other Vindicators I have seen are paladins.--Cemotucu (talk) 15:49, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Hrm, I checked some of the later TCG sets that haven't had their cards added here yet, and I see a few other non-pally vindicators too. Mostly they're warriors, but there's also a priest. Full listing of all TCG non-paladin vindicators:
So there's definitely more going on here than just "vindicator = paladin". I'm inclined to say it has nothing to do with the RPG class either, since vindicators seem like the lawful type, and act as soldiers, not vigilantes. I'm inclined to say that vindicators are a specific order or group. Maybe the members of the hand of argus, maybe the traditional guards of Shattrath, maybe some sort of champion, maybe the honor guard for exarchs. With the draenei mindset regarding the light, all those groups would consist mostly of paladins, priests or warriors seeking to become paladins.--Ijffdrie (talk) 18:14, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
I don't think we can take the TCG as a canon source. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 18:21, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Pretty sure that all official warcraft products are canon unless specifically stated otherwise. And if you want an example; the timewalkers (which have thusfar only been seen in the TCG) have been mentioned in an interview and on the twitter of Dave Kosak, and they seem to be treated as full canon. --Ijffdrie (talk) 20:11, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
Vindicator seems to just mean protector, in nearly every vindicator reference it talks about protecting, being a protector, and aiding others. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 22:20, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
