Quotes from Bfa

The Quotes from Zek'voz, Mythrax the Unraveler and G'huun (tactics) feature several translations that are in contrast to what words mean in the Speculative Shath'Yar-English dictionary (example: ilfah = you ≠ Zuq = you). Does this mean that G'huun does not speak Shath'yar, a different dialect of Shath'yar or that words in Shath'yar have multiple meanings and should we add translations from the quotes to this site?HorstVanDoom (talk) 20:55, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

There are already a few variations of "you," I'd say keep what's there and just add the new words in where you can. If some of them already have alternative definitions, no worries. -Cannibeans (talk) 20:58, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
What Cannibeans said. We don't really know a ton about Shath'Yar as a language; maybe the Old Gods just like using lots of synonyms. -- IconSmall TrollDeathKnight Male.gif DeludedTroll (talkcontribs) 21:08, 27 November 2018 (UTC)
I'm confident that the BFA quotes were generated in the same way that the player language translation is. If you look at the new quotes, almost all of them have the same amount of letters in Shath'yar as they do in English, which probably means it was just run through whatever randomizer they have and used that as their dialog. With this in mind, while they technically are "translations", they should be considered as outliers without any real accuracy. --Sunderfrost (talk) 05:53, 25 June 2021 (UTC)

Additional Translations

Most of these are from quotes that are consistent with already-confirmed translations. If confirmed, I'd like to request a table on the main page that lets you sort alphabetically by either the Shath'yar or English.

  • Ag = In, Within (lilth ma paf’qi’ag sk’halahs - you are a prisoner in your own body)
  • Agash = Despair (Agash zz maqdahl - Despair and sorrow)
  • Amqa = To Come (Or'kaaxth'ma amqa- a hundred thousand millennia to come)
  • Guulphg = Sustains (Sk’magg guulphg hoq - Your agony strengthens me)
  • Fash = Betrayal (Uhn'agh Fash - Darkest Betrayal)
  • Il'zarq = Voice (Il’zarq N’zoth - the voice of N’zoth)
  • Kar = To go (Uulwi skshgn kar - where shadows fear to go)
  • Maqdahl = Sorrow (Agash zz maqdahl - Despair and sorrow)
  • Mg' = Writhing (Mg’uulwi N’zoth - writhing shadow of N’zoth)
  • Noq = Not (Y'za noq mah, y'za noq ormz - I am not the first, I am not the last)
  • Oorgl = Madness (Fhn oorgl N’zoth Glimpse the madness of N’zoth)
  • Or = Hundred (Or’kaaxth’ma amqa - a hundred thousand millenia to come)
  • Othk = Light (En’othk uulg’shuul - no light after death)
  • Paf'qi = Prisoner (Iilth ma paf’qi’ag sk’halahs - you are a prisoner in your own body)
  • Ph'magg = Endless (Ph’magg - Endless torment)
  • Qwor = Above (Vra zz shfk qwor ga’halahs agthu - chitter and howl above the fly-blown corpse of this world)
  • Shar = Many (lilth qi mah’shar - you will be the first of many)
  • Shfk = Howl (Vra zz shfk qwor - chitter and howl above)
  • Sythn = Go/Going/Becoming (Iilth sythn aqev - You are going mad)

  • Vra = Chitter (Vra zz shfk qwor - chitter and howl above)
  • Woth’gl = Faithful (Sk'woth'gl yu'gaz Your faithful servant)
  • Vwyg = Once (Shath’mag vwyq shu et’agthu - the Black Empire once ruled this pitiful world)
  • Yawifk = Strengthens (Sk’magg yawifk hoq - your suffering strengthens me)

There are also a few other speculations that make sense in context, but the context isn't from previous consistent translations.

  • Ga = Will (trait)(N’zoth ga - Will of N’zoth)
  • Gag = Will (tense)(Halahs gag erh'ongg - Corpse will choke this land)
  • H'iwn = Light (Og h'iwn - No light)
  • Meg = Flesh (flesh banners?)(Vwyq agth sshoq'meg N'Zoth - Once more shall the twisted flesh-banners of N'Zoth)
  • Og = No (Og vormos - No escape)
  • Shandai (G'huun dialect?) = Consume (W’oq uhn’agth ez qam. Shandai! - Come, servants of rot. Consume!)
  • Sshoq = Twist (sshoq anagg'qen - twist in endless spirals)
  • Vormos = Escape (Og vormos - No escape)
  • Zig, (an'zig?) = Depths, deeps (Phg’wa an’zig - whispers from the deeps)
  • Zyqtahg = Corrupts (N'Zoth zyqtahg iilth. - N'Zoth corrupts you.)
  • Yoq’al = Perpetuity, forever (Yoq’al shn ky yqaq nuul - It is the perpetuity in which they dwell)

On the subject of the three forms of "You" (Ilith, Iilth, Ilfah) I have a theory that might make sense, but isn't completely consistent.

  • Iilth = Present tense (N'Zoth zyqtahg iilth. - N'Zoth corrupts you)(Iilth sythn aqev - You are going mad)
  • Ilfah = Past tense (Sk'woth'gl yu'gaz yog'ghyl ilfah! - Your faithful servant has failed you!)
  • Ilith = Future tense (Ilith qi'uothk - You will drown)

And finally, some potential translations of untranslated words and phrases.

Ny'alotha weapons:

  • An'zig Vra = Chittering Deeps/Depths
  • Shgla'yos = They who dine on lost souls(?) ("Shgla'yos plahf mh'naus" - They who dine on lost souls know only hunger.)
  • Sk'shuul Vaz = Your Death (unknown word)
  • Qwor N’lyeth - Above Survival
  • Uhn'agh Fash = Darkest betrayal
  • Vorzz Yoq'al = Singing Perpetuity, perpetual singing?

Phrases:

  • "Uulwi gag erh'ongg w'ssh/w'ssht." = Shadows will choke this land for all eternity
  • "Yrr n'lyeth... shuul anagg! = (unkown word) survive… Endless death
