Patch 3.2.3, jealous of his sister's return, Nefarian returns in the revamped Blackwing Lair with 10-man and 25-man raids. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 06:07, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Pretty sure she is still dead lorewise: "This isn't your typical "new and exciting content." We want to do something special for the players for World of Warcraft's five-year anniversary, and what better way than to bring back one of the first-ever raid encounters featuring a staple character of the classic game? :)" [1] -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 07:06, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

I hope this doesn't mean that they'll be removing the old Onyxia's Lair encounter, considering they're "disregarding" the lore on this one anyway. While they're at it I wouldn't mind seeing the attunement quest restored along with 40-man Naxx. -_- Dr. Cheis (talk) 01:38, 17 August 2009 (UTC)

I think based on this quote, it's just a revamp, not an actual return, however you want to work that into the scheme of lore-things.

Re: Onyxia Cool but Lore? | 2009-08-13 17:04 | Blizzard Entertainment Bornakk

Q u o t e:

Note that I love the idea of raiding her again, i am just curious about the lore around this. I guess I am something of a lore nerd but it would be great if someone could point me to a source saying if this is at all lore based or just fan service and game mechanics.

There is no change in the lore, the story works just the same as it does with Onyxia in the game right now. This a celebration of the 5 year anniversary of World of Warcraft and we are doing something a little more than just adding a pet this year.

Heh... they might not be revamping Blackwing Lair... but I called it with Nefarian... Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 20:48, September 1, 2009 (UTC)

Whoever came up with the idea that we'd see Nefarian again? The entrances are in his throne room, yes, but the new 5man and raid are completely new, though "inspired by Blackwing Lair against Nefarian", as the Cataclysm article puts it (well, put it) - that means we fought Nefarian in BWL, which in turn inspires the new instances, not that Nefarian will show up there. ~ Nathanyel (talk) 22:48, September 1, 2009 (UTC)
Nefarian will be a boss in the new raid dungeon Blackwing Descent. It's confirmed. User:ShandrisForever 06:35, September 2, 2009 (UTC)
Seems they indeed stated that at BlizzCon... Scourge and demons/elementals returning I can accept because of their nature, but dragons? Onyxia is a fan service, exempt from lore, but BWD seems to be integrated into the CC storyline. What next? New aspect of Magic will be a reincarnated Malygos? ~ Nathanyel (talk) 10:23, September 2, 2009 (UTC)

I have my own question to throw in here: What's the actual story of Onyxia's death? I know this redone raid doesn't change anything, but in Night of the Dragon, it was said Varian himself along with some adventurers went and killed her. But in the actual game, when you turn in the head, it would appear as if Varian had only received the head and never actually encountered her. Also, NotD claimed that Nefarian was actually dead, but he was stated to make a return in Cataclysm. So would this mean that perhaps Knaak's works aren't valid or canon? I know it was said his stuff was, but it seems like it isn't. IconSmall FelbloodElf Male.gifWarlock Mykael Mourningsun (talk) 23:12, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

All of the books and stuff are canon; Nefarian was even said (well, implied) to have been killed back in Burning Crusade in the scene with Lady Sinestra at Netherwing Ledge. Anyway, the tale of Onyxia's death took place in the comic. Varian and co. rescued Marshal Windsor and confronted Katrana Prestor together, and after transforming into Onyxia she kidnapped Anduin when she left. So Varian took off with Broll Bearmantle, Valeera Sanguinar, Thargas Anvilmar, and a bunch of Stormwind guards to Theramore. There they picked up Jaina Proudmoore and a battalion of Theramore marines and all headed off into Onyxia's Lair to rescue Anduin and kill her. Then Varian cut off her head and hauled it back to Stormwind with him. The head turn-in quest is just one of those little inconsistencies that comes as a result of her still being in the game despite being dead lorewise. -- Dark T Zeratul (talk) 23:19, September 23, 2009 (UTC)

Trial of the Champion

From the forum post about the transition from jousting to "regular" play.

Re: ToC 5: Smoothing the transition from jousting | 2009-08-31 21:43 | Blizzard Entertainment Valnoth

We've fixed this in patch 3.2.2. You should no longer feel obliged to zone out to reset their positions.
