Types of Humanoid

That is your opinion about civilized, less civilized, rock crafted, and elfkind Opinions do not belong in Wiki encyclopedias. Neutral Point of Views must be kept at all times. --DarkTichondrias

I agree on civilized part. The "Elven decended"/"Titan Created"/"From Draenor"/"From Argus"/"Decendants of Cenarius" is better. Can we go back to the subctagories?--Scalp 14:05, 27 July 2006 (EDT)

Pandarans & Highborne

Despite the refrence to Chen's Barrel, there are no Pandarens in World of Warcraft as of yet, there are also no Sundering era Highborne.--Baggins

The Highborne exist as a historical group, and I think should be included. The Pandarans exist in Warcraft lore, and I think should be included.--Scalp 14:05, 27 July 2006 (EDT)
Highborne are kaldorei however, the same as the night elves, not a seperate race best I can tell. If this page starts to go beyond being a WoW page, I could see Pandaren being added.Baggins 17:35, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Northrend Humanoids?

Shouldn't Nerubians, Tuskkar, and Taunka be added? They are Humanoids after all, we don't need the expansion to confirm that. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aroka (talk · contr).

I'm not entirely sure that Nerubians can really be classified as humanoid, but I agree with the others. -- Dark T Zeratul 00:29, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

They fit in all the categories of a humanoid though. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Aroka (talk · contr).

1. Are they classed as humanoid in the MMO?

2. Are they classed as humanoid in the RPG?

If not then they may not fit on the page.Baggins 05:11, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Size Categories

If you look at the height chart (p. 16 of the Burning Crusade game manual, you'll see that draenei are about as tall as tauren (and the males are nearly as bulky). They should probably also be in the "medium/large" category (or the category should be abolished, and the tauren put in one or the other). —Qit el-Remel 15:01, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Those categories are official RPG categories. So they will not be "abolished". As for Draenei we don't have more information about them.Baggins 05:10, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually for the Draenei, he is correct...In the WoW:TBC manual, page 16-17, it shows the Draenei taller than female Taurens, but shorter than the males.....Actually they are the same size as the NightElves give or take an inch. So if Draenei are moved, the Nightelves have to be moved as well.
Hmm...the Trolls are a tad bigger than Nightelves ... and Draenei ... eh, Lets just leave it how it is. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:22, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Point of note Tauren are where they are because the RPG has categorized individual tauren in two seperate categories. Most characters fall under medium, and a few rare individuals fall under large. Whereas most if not all NPC and player characters in the other races have only appeared under "medium humanoids" listing.

I put tauren in a seperate listing to avoid listing them "twice".Baggins 05:26, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

And thats why Baggins is Lord of the Lore. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 05:38, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Wretched

I think the wretched are humanoids... Shouldn't they be right under under blood elves? LieAfterLie 03:25, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

ok added. Snake.gifSssssssssssssssssssssssss Coobra sig3.gifFor Pony! (Sssss/Slithered) 03:42, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Flayer

Should "Flayer" be added as a race? Although there is not much information about them, they do appear as humanoids (and oddly enough, as beasts too), and should therefore be categorized as such. See Nethermine Flayer (beast) and Rocknail Flayer (humanoid).--gOurra[T¦C] 04:50, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I really think bliz forgot that they made Flayers humanoid, when the later added flayers on Netherwing Ledge as beasts. What bugs me is that the lv70 ravagers on netherwing ledge are the only ravagers above the lv63-65, but aren't tamable.......what was the question? Oh yea, if you want to add them go ahead, but do it under Monstrous Humanoids ...was going to say not to, because they have no known speech...but then I noticed yetis on the list. The flayers on Netherwing Ledge was originally humanoids, but Blizzard made them beasts in a patch because they were over-farmed (?) by players to get alot of money and cloth. Just a side note.--gOurra[T¦C] 05:14, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah, ... well, by the time I even noticed their race I saw beast... I always wonder if it was just a mistake..thanks for clearing that up. No problem.
On another note, I just made [Flayer], using data from observations I've gathered from my journeys in Outland. As there is (as far as I know) no official data on flayers, I will keep that as reference. Someone also need to create an icon for the race, alas I do not know how to do it.--gOurra[T¦C] 05:27, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
I retract that statement: {{RaceIconExt|<Flayer>|<Small>}}--gOurra[T¦C] 05:34, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
For someone that didn't know how to do it...you sure made one really fast, lol. User:CoobraSssssssssssssssssssssssss User:CoobraFor Pony! {TDon't hiss at me.CIf you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all.) 05:35, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Eh, just making a square from an NPC pic, resize to fit along with the other icons and voila - there's a race icon for ya. It will, though, need some polishing and that's what I originally meant. This will be a placeholder for now.--gOurra[T¦C] 05:39, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Makrura

Shouldn't Makrura be aquatic as well?
It says on the page of their capital Mak'aru that their capital is on the ocean floor. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Quendorsof (talk · contr).

Running away

The bit about "running away when at low health" is certainly true for most Azeroth and Outland humanoids. But I haven't noticed it happening with any of the Northrend ones. Anyone know if this was just an oversight on Blizzard's part, or if they've decided to get rid of it altogether? User:Jormungand01/sig 21:46, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

Pickpocket

Previously this page said first: "Can be Pickpocketed and Sapped by a Rogue. Then later on "Most can be Pickpocketed", so I changed it to avoid repeating the same meaning. Perhaps this should be done to all the "Characteristics in World of Warcraft" Notes, as none of those characteristics apply to every humanoid in game. Also, if you're disagreeing with the idea I previously stated, remember that the edit to the page was done because of a meaning being repeated:)

Murlocs

Murlocs have two arms, two legs, a torso with a head on top. They also have a language, architecture and something of a culture. Why aren't they humanoids? BobNamataki (talk) 22:32, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

They are on the list.--SWM2448 23:46, October 23, 2009 (UTC)

Edit wars

This page is for a list of humanoid races in WoW. I consider something humanoid if it is classified in the game as such, be it actually humanoid or not. More to the point, this page (like the templates), being a list, is for accessibility, not for speculation. For starters, it is not known for sure if the "naga lord" model is a naga anomaly. Also, what Cataclysm quest says that dragonmaw orcs are a new subrace?--SWM2448 03:03, 18 November 2010 (UTC)

Do they need to say dragonmaw orc is a new subrace, do we have any quest in burning crusade that tells mag'har are new subrace? Mag'har and Dragonmaw orcs have wildly different skin colours than the average orc, if you consider one a sub-race you have to consider the other a sub-race too.--Ashbear160 (talk) 13:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Are Blackrock orcs a subrace too in your mind? With Mag'har, we have a confirmed biological difference. With black-skinned orcs, we have a color.--SWM2448 19:55, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
Naga anomaly the description fits perfectly, if it walks like a duck, eats like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's most probably a duck--Ashbear160 (talk) 13:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
I do not think that it fits the description perfectly. It only sort of fits. The naga anomaly page itself mentions the model-naga anomaly relation ship as speculative.--SWM2448 19:55, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
What part of it does not fit? Naga anomalies are nagas with traits from sea creatures, it fits perfectly, nyway i'm going to ask for clarification in the next dev lore questions thread...--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:44, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
No double standards...--Ashbear160 (talk) 21:00, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
So, is there a significant biological reason why some orcs are black?--SWM2448 23:23, 26 November 2010 (UTC)
Are you arguing why people are black? there's always a biological reason otherwise they wouldn't be black, same with the mag'har they are brown for biological reasons--Ashbear160 (talk) 01:29, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
The mag'har are brown because they were not exposed to as much fel energies. Dragonmaw and Blackrock orcs are just a color. The question is whether they are "races" or not. Prevent some real evidence or I will remove them.--SWM2448 02:13, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Normally in a fantasy game a skin colour is all it takes to be a different race this game included, just look at trolls, dwarves, vrykuls and dragonflights, they are different subraces with different skin colours as a difference, and the only way you can't accept dragonmaw as different race is if you have a double standard and i absolutely loath double standards and a wiki has no place having them--Ashbear160 (talk) 12:11, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Besides color, what is the difference between Dragonmaw orcs and the green orcs? If you are using this pages and ones like it to define "race" based on your personal theories, I have come to loathe that. I am trying to take the safe path, but if you really really really are going to drag this on, I will happily remove both orc types.--SWM2448 03:00, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
Besides colour, what is the difference between Mag'har orcs and Green orcs... it's not a theory it's just applying the same standards, what's the difference between all the troll races? skin colour, the Dragonmaw also have their own culture like different troll races, and tattoos which is similar to the wildhammer differences with the ironforge dwarves--Ashbear160 (talk) 03:20, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
There are differences beyond that. Do the differences make them races? I do not know. You seem to. I would like to know how. Being on this list, and ones like it, imply that everything on this list is a race. It is a minor point, but I do not like it, as it may trickle back as fanon to their main pages.--SWM2448 01:03, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
If it's not the biological and cultural differences that makes them different races then tell me what makes races so different from each other?--Ashbear160 (talk) 02:41, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Just chiming in here from an uninvolved admin... Is this really such a big deal? Blizz plays the race card in various ways. My stance is that if there's a Blizz-confirmed biological difference (say: maghar vs every other orc clan--because of the (lack of) fel influence), then yes, it counts as a separate race. Just a different skin color does not a new race make if we don't have any other information. The dragonflights are different races because Blizz has said they are. Same goes for the different types of trolls/vrykul. We don't have that information for other orc clans as far as I'm aware. --k_d3 05:37, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
Also -- we should only be sticking to the facts as they're presented to us in-game/the source books/etc... In all honesty, judgment calls on what is or isn't a race aren't ours to make. Leave that to Blizz. The facts are defensible and are what we should have on the wiki. Feelings and theorizing are not. --k_d3 05:45, 29 November 2010 (UTC)
