Edit War: Merchant or not?

Can someone tell me why is the occupation of this guy not merchant?--Amargaard (talk) 01:06, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

I think it's because vendor is more related to people selling in-game items, while merchant is "lore" merchants, but turning this into an edit war is pointless nitpicking tbh Xporc (talk) 07:30, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
Look at his title - it even says merchant. Nevertheless, in my opinion, every vendor is a merchant by lore too --Amargaard (talk) 11:45, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
Regardlesss, this guy was both. His title is merchant, and he sold equipment. PeterWind (talk) 20:29, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
What I meant is that in lore a vendor and a merchant are the same thing, it's just that on wowpedia "vendor" is the term chosen for people actually selling items, while "merchant" is the lore name we use for any people living their lives selling stuff, even if in-game they don't sell anything. Xporc (talk) 11:25, 10 October 2018 (UTC)
Yep, when removing, I went by that the logic of Merchant's hidden text of "This part should contain mobs that are said to be merchants but that are not actual vendors toward the player." This would also apply vice-versa that npcs that sell stuff, are vendors, and don't need to be listed as merchants, even tho they are both. I also think that "merchant" is currently not used (or in veeery small number) with in-game vendors. --Mordecay (talk) 20:07, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
But in a perfect world - all vendor-articles would have their occupation filled out as merchants too, imho. Surely the vendors are created for gameplay-reasons, but they are as much part of Warcraft Lore as the quest givers. --Amargaard (talk) 20:15, 11 October 2018 (UTC)
i think the sticking point here is, would it be useful to categorize vendors in both Category:Vendors and Category:Merchants? personally i don't think so. the two categories serve different purposes. it's like the rule where, for example, you don't add a character to both Category:NPCs and Category:Vendors because of course a vendor is an npc. though Category:Vendors isn't actually a subcategory of Category:Merchants, the situation is similar; there would be no real gain in adding the contents of Category:Vendors to Category:Merchants because it's already fairly obvious that vendors are merchants. it'd only have the effect of making Category:Merchants harder to browse --Eithris (talk) 22:48, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
I'm personally reluctant about the use of a "Merchants" category because IMO it'll only end up in confusing people Xporc (talk) 07:21, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
..... it appears i read this thread wrong & was mistaken on exactly what’s being talked about here. apologies, eheh. BUT i do still think referring to NPCs as vendors and merchants at the same time wouldn’t be particularly useful. “vendor” already implies “merchant” so it seems redundant to list both —Eithris (talk) 13:52, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
What about this? --Mordecay (talk) 22:58, 18 October 2018 (UTC)
Would still be confusing to people that are not wowpedia experts imo :/ Xporc (talk) 10:55, 20 October 2018 (UTC)
Would my approval be any surprise? I think it's a fine addition to the list of categories, that could also fit in as a sub-category of Category:Commoners --Amargaard (talk) 01:39, 22 October 2018 (UTC)
