Saa'ra is a naaru located in the Sanctuary of the Light in the Netherlight Temple. Long ago, she turned for unknown reasons into a void god known as Saraka the Lighteater, and was eventually imprisoned by the draenei to help them study the Void. By the time of the third invasion of the Burning Legion, the priests of the Conclave performed a ritual to restore Sa'ra to the Light. She is the only known example of the void creature transformation being undone, with the exception of the alternate Velen purifying the naaru K'ara in alternate Draenor.

The priests of Azeroth purifying Saraka the Lighteater.

Long ago, the naaru Saa'ra fell into her Void state and became a void god known as Saraka the Lighteater. Instead of killing her, the draenei built a prison to contain and study the fallen creature. Later known as the Netherlight Temple, it became a place to commune with the naaru and ponder the nature of the Twisting Nether.

At the onset of the Burning Legion's third invasion of Azeroth, Prophet Velen led priests of all denominations from Azeroth to Netherlight Temple. After millennia of wanton destruction, the draenei had sought to devise a ritual that could turn her back into a naaru. Their combined efforts, with the help of O'ros and a priest adventurer wielding a powerful artifact, managed to return Saa'ra to the Light. The purified naaru then remained in the Sanctuary of the Light after it was turned into the Class Hall for the priests of the Conclave.[1]

As the Conclave's efforts to restore Saa'ra had not gone unnoticed, High Priestess Ishanah of the Sha'tar thanked the High Priest and became one of their champions.[2]

With the help of Saa'ra, the highly skilled artificer and enchanter Betild Deepanvil designed the Altar of Light and Shadow to empower the High Priest's artifacts.[3]

When the High Priests recovered a Spark of Light from Hyrja and released it in the Sanctuary of the Light, Saa'ra thanked them for their gift.[4] After the Conclave agents obtained remnants of pure Light collected from holy sites around Azeroth, she told the High Priest to nurture the spark with them, leading to the creation of the lightspawn Sol.[5]

During the Burning Legion's assault on the Netherlight Temple, Saa'ra was present alongside the Conclave and the Order of the Silver Hand to repel the demonic invaders. She and Prophet Velen were the only ones not imprisoned in a fel prison by Balnazzar. After the nathrezim was destroyed, the priests and paladins gathered in a circle around Velen and Saa'ra for the announcement of their victory.[6]

Before the Storm

In the Netherlight Temple, Calia Menethil spoke of her nightmares with Saa'ra, who would usually offer her comfort and insight. On one such occasion, Saa'ra told Calia that the nightmares would stop once she was ready for them to stop and that there were things she had to do and become before that peace would be granted unto her. However, she also warned that some of her trials may involve pain and blood. Though Calia admitted it didn't make her feel any better, Saa'ra told her it might once she understood that even painful developments may become hidden gifts and to trust in the purpose of her destiny. Eventually, the naaru's insights and warmth would ease Calia's apprehension and comfort her. Saa'ra then told Calia to sleep in peace, prompting the calmed priestess to go back to bed.[7]

Following the tragic end of the Gathering, Saa'ra watched over the non-decomposing corpse of Calia in its chamber and told Alonsus Faol to wait for Anduin Wrynn's arrival. Once Anduin arrived, the naaru stated that Calia would become free from pain and nightmares and that Anduin and Alonsus would bring her back as the Light and she herself would have her be. With Saa'ra's guidance, the two priests raised Calia back to life with the power of the Light, but as an undead.[8]
