Shiny Pet Charm was obtainable from various sources:
- It was a quest reward from
[1-70 Daily] Battle Pet Roundup / 
[1-70 Daily] Scrappin', which are started by Lio the Lioness and Serr'ah (respectively) at a Level 1 / 2 Menagerie in the Garrison, and from the daily pet battle quests on Draenor. At a Level 3 Menagerie, the daily quest is exchanged for 
[1-70 Daily] Mastering the Menagerie that rewards you with a 
[Big Bag of Pet Supplies], containing Pet Charms. - The pet tamers part of the
[Taming Draenor] achievement rewarded the currency via their repeatable quests. - Various Class Hall missions and some War Campaign missions.
- Pet Battle world quests in the Broken Isles and Argus
[Fel-Touched Pet Supplies] contained a few charms. The bag comes from defeating the Tanaan Jungle legendary pets.
As currency
This currency was used to purchase companions, toys and pet battle supplies during Warlords of Draenor and Legion.

Removal
With the removal of the charms in patch 10.2.5, players are sent a mail from Agapanthus with the attached 
[Polished Pet Charm] of however many Shiny Pet Charms the player had.
Greetings, fellow lover of the small and cute. We noticed some of the old shiny pet charms were beginning to expire and lose their shine, so we spent some industrious whelps to polish them up for you. Everyone still dealing in shiny pet charms has also been convinced to use these polished ones, so you should only ever need to worry about the one type of charm from now on.

Patch changes
Patch 10.2.5 (2024-01-16): Removed. Any existing have been converted to [Polished Pet Charm] and sent in the mail. 
Patch 8.0.1 (2018-07-17): Renamed from Pet Charm. - Hotfix (2016-09-28): Pet Charm missions now provide Pet Charms for both the main reward and the bonus reward.
- Patch 7.0.3 (2016-07-19): The amount of Pet Charm rewarded from [Big Bag of Pet Supplies] has been halved.
- Patch 6.1.0 (2015-02-24): Stack increased to 1000, up from 200.
- Patch 6.0.2 (2014-10-14): Added.
