Onyxian Whelps are black whelps found in Onyxia's Lair.
Onyxian Whelps spawn at regular intervals during phase 2 of the Onyxia encounter. On the corners of the boss chamber in Onyxia's Lair, there are nests of eggs. If a player enters the nests, some of the eggs hatch and whelps will spawn.

Notes
Many who accompanied King Varian Wrynn in his hunt for Onyxia were slain not by the broodmother, but by the dozens of young whelplings defending her lair.[1]
Patch changes
Patch 3.2.2 (2009-09-22): Revamped to the level-80 version of the Onyxia encounter.
