Onyxian Whelps are black whelps found in Onyxia's Lair.
Onyxian Whelps spawn at regular intervals during phase 2 of the Onyxia encounter. On the corners of the boss chamber in Onyxia's Lair, there are nests of eggs. If a player enters the nests, some of the eggs hatch and whelps will spawn.

- Many who accompanied King Varian Wrynn in his hunt for Onyxia were slain not by the broodmother, but by the dozens of young whelplings defending her lair.[1]
- While named as such, they do not use the onyxian whelp model used by the Spawns of Onyxia and the Onyxian Whelpling.
Patch changes
Patch 3.2.2 (2009-09-22): Revamped to the level-80 version of the Onyxia encounter.
