Mannoroth's Bones was the Horde flagship sent to from Ratchet to Borean Tundra to bring the last of the Horde troops home after the War with the Lich King. Cairne Bloodhoof was aboard the ship to supervise the evacuation operations. As the last of the supplies and veterans from Warsong Hold were being loaded, a group of kvaldir landed and attacked the Horde forces at Garrosh Landing. Between the leadership of Cairne and Garrosh they were able to get the injured to the damaged ship and escape to sea.

On the way to Ratchet, Mannoroth's Bones was hit by a short but powerful storm that sank two other Horde ships in the convoy and drove an Alliance ship into Horde waters. At seeing the Alliance ship Garrosh ordered its destruction. Cairne tried to the stop the attack, but Captain Tula--agreeing with Garrosh's order and seeing it as an opportunity to get materials for her own damaged vessel--pointed out that Cairne was only in charge of the evacuation and not the military forces, who were commanded by Garrosh. The Horde easily captured the Alliance ship, and after the battle the eleven Alliance survivors were given skiffs and told by Garrosh to tell others what happened as an example of his "mercy".
