- Fullmetal Alchemist — [Pyrotex Ignition Cloth] references the character Roy Mustang, who uses white gloves made of "pyrotex/ignition cloth."
- Hunter x Hunter — [Zoldyck Family Training Shackles] references the family of assassins with the same name.
- Marvel Comics — [Broot] is a reference to Groot.
- One Piece — [Akainu's Absolute Justice] is a references to Admiral Akainu.
- Sword Art Online — [Heathcliff's Immortality] is a reference to leader of Knights of the Blood Oath, Heathcliff, who due to the games "systems protection" he was listed as an immortal object.
- YuYu Hakusho — [Spirit of the Darkness Flame] is a reference to the Dragon of the Darkness Flame.

- Destiny — [Pillars of Inmost Light] is a reference to the item Helm of Inmost Light.
- Diablo
- [Al'maiesh, the Cord of Hope] is a reference to Al'maiesh, the weapon wielded by Auriel, Angel of Hope.
- [Butcher's Bone Apron] is a reference to the iconic Butcher fight from Diablo.
- [Thundergod's Vigor] references the legendary belt of the same name.
- [Weight of the Earth] takes its name from the Barbarian set item.
- Duke Nukem — There is a series of four achievements on Argus ( [We Came Here For Two Reasons], [To Kill Demons...], [...And Chew Mana Buns], [And We're All Out of Mana Buns]) that, when put together, they form the penultimate quote from Duke Nukem: "I came here for two reasons, to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all out of gum"
- Final Fantasy — Koraud is a reference to Cloud Strife.

- The [Hearthstation] is an obvious reference to the game.
- [Dual Determination] is a reference to the Hearthstone card Druid of the Claw which has two effects.
- Magic: The Gathering — The flavor text of [Pyrotex Ignition Cloth] references the card Sizzle.
- StarCraft — [10-45] Wings of Liberty is an obvious reference to StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty.

- Game of Thrones — The flavour text of [The Empty Crown] is spoken by Tyrion Lannister.
- Key & Peele — [Tak'theritrix's Shoulderpads] is a reference to the sketch East/West College Bowl.
- Kung Fu Hustle — [Sephuz's Secret] is a reference to a scene from the movie.
- Pokémon — The flavor text of [Destiny Driver] references the Team Rocket motto.
- Star Trek: The Original Series
- [Qa'pla, Eredun War Order] is named after the Klingon word for "success", Qapla'.
- [The Walls Fell] references the iconic Darmok episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- The [Young Mutant Warturtles] and the companion are a reference to the mutant turtles.
- Splint is a reference to the rat character, Splinter.
- The Blues Brothers — [10-45] Getting the Band Back Together is a reference to the refrain spoken throughout the movie. When trying to rally their old bandmates to help save the orphanage where Jake and Elwood were raised, their reprise was always "Guys, we're getting the band back together!"
- The Bourne Identity — The flavour text of [The Shadow Hunter's Voodoo Mask] is a reference to the Nykwana Wombosi's quote "If you are going to kill me, kill me dead!"
- Westworld — The flavor text of [Zeks Exterminatus] is taken from one of the Maeve quotes.

- Anjunabeats — [Entrancing Trousers of An'juna] is a reference to this trance music group.
- DragonForce
- In Stormheim, there is a questline that takes place in the Hrydshal area with quests by the names of "Above the Winter Moonlight," "Wings of Liberty," "Heart of a Dragon," "Fury of the Storm," "Where Dragons Rule", and "Cry Thunder."
- At the beginning of the the "Balance of Power" questline, there is a quest called "The Power Within," which may be a reference to the 2012 album released by Dragonforce.
- Eric Prydz — [Prydaz, Xavaric's Magnum Opus] is a reference to his album "Opus."
- Flume — [Streten's Sleepless Shackles] is a reference to his real name, Harley Edward Streten, and his song "Sleepless." The flavor text is a reference to another song, "Insane."
- Kaskade — [Raddon's Cascading Eyes] is a reference to his song "Eyes."
- Metallica — The warlock quest [45] Give Me Fuel, Give Me Fire is a reference to their song "Fuel."
- Nero — [N'ero, Band of Promises] is a reference to th band and one of his produced tracks "Promises". The flavor text is a reference to one of the vocal hooks in the song: "And it still feels all so wasted on myself!"

- The flavor text of [Ekowraith, Creator of Worlds] is from the lyrics to his song "Fellow Feeling."
- [Shelter of Rin] is a reference to Rin from Shelter.

- Paul Walker — [Katsuo's Eclipse] is a tribute to him; his rogue's name was Katsuo.
- Stephen Hawking — [Lessons of Space-Time] has a reference to him.
- Skullflower — [Skullflower's Haemostasis] is a reference to him, a death knight theorycrafter and guidewriter who now works at Blizzard.

- [Chaos Theory] is a reference to a branch of mathematics; chaotic behavior can be easily seen in systems like traffic and weather.
- [Firestone Walkers] appears to be a tribute to the Firestone Walker Brewing Company, frequented by Blizzard staff.
- [Fundamental Observation] references a limited edition beer sold by Bottle Logic, a microbrewery near Blizzard.
- [Good Suramaritan] is a reference to the Good Samaritan.
- [Infused and Abused] is a reference to the common phrase "Used and Abused."
- [Jewel of the Lost Abbey] is a reference to The Lost Abbey, a brewery with beers named Gift of the Magi and Veritas.
