Lakkari Tar Pits
The Lakkari Tar Pits are lakes of thick, foul-smelling black tar[1] found in northern Un'Goro Crater, just south of Marshal's Refuge. Scavengers hang around looking for easy prey, as the tar often traps creatures in its grip. The bones of hundreds of beasts jut out from the tar's surface.[1] The area is also inhabited by tar beasts.
Rare tarblossom flowers grow at the bottom of the pits. They're valued for their beauty and durability, but their being deep in the tar makes them difficult to harvest.[2]
While in contact with the tar, the
Swimming in Tar debuff reduces movement speed by 70%.
Tar beasts
In the RPG
In the north central area of Un'Goro, in the area of sparsest tree cover, lie these curious lakes of black tar. Creatures that venture too close get stuck and perish in the dark depths. The bones of perhaps thousands of reptiles and other beasts lie strewn about the place, some of them ancient.[3]
Notes
- During the Fourth War, the spirit of Torcali passed through the area.[4]
- The tar pits appear in the Lakkari Sacrifice quest in Hearthstone's Journey to Un'Goro expansion. Its flavor text, referencing the Warlords of Draenor cinematic, reads: "They asked, 'And what must we give in return?' Gul'dan lowered his hood and answered: 'Six... cards...'"
