Improved Power Word: Shield is a Discipline priest talent which increases the damage absorbed by [Power Word: Shield].
Tips
This talent's usefulness depends on how often the priest makes use of [Power Word: Shield]:
- For Discipline priests: This is an excellent talent for Discipline priests, improving one of their most important abilities.
- For Holy priests: Less useful, although it may still be worthwhile depending on how often they use Power Word: Shield.
- For Shadow priests: A very helpful talent to increase survivability, especially in PvP. Since many Shadow priests will choose to talent
[Evangelism] and 
[Archangel], the choice is often between this talent and 
[Mental Agility], which improves mana efficiency.
By increasing the size of Power Word: Shield, this talent also increases the amount healed by 
[Glyph of Power Word: Shield].
When combined with the Discipline mastery [Mastery: Shield Discipline], 2 points in this talent actually improves Power Word: Shield by at least 24%.
Patch changes
Patch 5.0.4 (2012-08-28): Removed. 
Patch 4.0.1 (2010-10-12): Now a first tier talent in the Discipline tree with only 2 ranks (was a tier 3 talent with 3 ranks). 
Patch 3.1.0 (2009-04-14): Exchanged locations with 
[Meditation] (was tier 2).
