The golems of the Third War were magically wrought automatons of varying types of stone. Most of these golems could be found in and around Dalaran, for the mages there created them to perform manual labor and guard their mystical holdings. Certain renegade wizards were also known to create their own golems to protect their secret dens and lairs. Most of these golems were magically protected from spells, so that enemy mages couldn't turn them against their creators. Golems were generally thought to be mindless, however there were documented cases of golems roaming freely, without their masters to control them. Where these vagabond constructs went or what they sought was a complete mystery.[1]

Golems were some of the most powerful creeps in WarCraft III, due to their relatively high health and damage. They do not sleep like a few other creeps such as bandits.

In the campaign, they often look like their surroundings.

Notes

These types of golem do not exist in World of Warcraft, the golems being created by (or the designs stolen from) the titans, and not created by mages as their servants.

Arcane golems seem to be the closest thing to them in WoW, being used by the blood elves in much the same ways as these golems were. The Elemental Slaves around Dalaran Crater may also be a reference to them.
