Gaz Soulripper was an orcish warlock of the Shadow Council when the new warchief, Orgrim Doomhammer, came upon them in a surprise attack and slew nearly every last member, including Gaz. Shortly after, Gaz's former master, Gul'dan, brought the orc back and placed his spirit, along with those of his fellow council members, in the decaying bodies of the Knights of Azeroth. Thus the death knights were born.
Ultimately, the Horde was defeated and the Portal destroyed. Gaz found himself trapped on Draenor along with Teron Gorefiend and Ragnok Bloodreaver. Teron, accompanied by Gaz and the other death knights, convinced Ner'zhul to reopen the portal. When the assault was made Gaz Soulripper was placed in charge of matters on the Azerothian side of the Dark Portal's reconstruction. He later followed Gorefiend to his diplomatic Blackrock Mountain expedition toward the Dark Horde.[1]
Gaz was later captured and brought before Turalyon and Khadgar at Nethergarde Keep, where he was interrogated about the Horde's new invasion. Khadgar tortured him with magic, but after a struggle Gaz managed to overthrow his bindings and tried to strangle the mage. Turalyon then burned the death knight to ashes using the Holy Light.[2]
