Ugh. It feels like three years ago. Alongside the user signin merge, Curse wants us to move to http://wow.gamepedia.com to boost the pagerank of their gaming wiki host. Maybe some of the gamepedia pagerank will trickle back down to us too, is the theory I'm told.

Personally, I'm opposed to the domain move. Even though Curse has left us alone until now, how long until the next change? Yes, I've been consistently told that we're not being forced to use a fixed-width skin or that the ad slots are staying where they are... who knows?

Anyway, chime in here. --k_d3 20:11, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm of course opposed - though if they force our hand I'm not sure we have many other options (from my recollection of our review prior to the WoWWiki split). --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:17, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
I thought we moved away from Wikia BECAUSE of this. Hell, not even Wikia managed to pull off the "move site to subdomain" stunt. If this happens, I'm considering to be gone for good. --g0urra[T҂C] 20:18, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Specifically it was about ads, but yes the general reason was for Wikia overriding our site's preferences. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:21, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
We will not be changing ads. We will not be forcing fixed width, or anything else on your community. This domain thing was presented as a question, and if we could make it work. We understand your prior history with Wikia. We also feel we have provided you a good experience, an experience much better than you had on Wikia. We don't interfere and we respect you. We asked if we could make this change so that you could help us bring this experience to other communities, most notably by exposure. - Smokie (talk) 20:37, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Part of the problems that wikis have that are leaving Wikia are facing is their forcing the unified design (and ads), as well as a refusal to work with wiki users. I get what you're saying about exposure - but if you're specifically trying to bring over other Wikia wikis perhaps the presentation of a more laissez-faire approach would be more appealing to them, otherwise there might not be enough to actually draw them away. --Pcj (TDrop me a line!C207,729 contributions and counting) 20:50, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

How about just make it so that http://wow.gamepedia.gom/ redirects to Wowpedia.org? --g0urra[T҂C] 12:49, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

I just posted the notice regarding the move to the Gamepedia Platform. This is NOT going to include a URL change. --Wynthyst (talk) 16:24, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
