The Crown of Will is an object that Mug'thol the ogre was sent to retrieve for Lady Sylvanas Windrunner from the Alterac Mountains. However, when he found the crown, Mug'thol tried it on instead of returning it, allowing him to break free of Sylvanas' banshee possession. In response, Sylvanas decided to make an example of the ogre.[1] Her lieutenant Melisara sent adventurers to kill Mug'thol's Crushridge minions[2][3] and then behead the ogre himself, crown and all.[4] Melisara then sent the adventurers to bring the crown back to Sharlindra in the Undercity, who in turn delivered it to Sylvanas. Sharlindra noted that it was strange that such a simple relic could wield such great power.[5]
As a quest objective
- This item drops from Mug'thol in Alterac Mountains for [43] The Crown of Will.
- It is then provided for the quest [43] The Crown of Will.
In the RPG
The crown gleams constantly, giving off an almost hypnotic pattern of light that immediately catches the gaze of all who approach. Fashioned entirely from rare, polished gemstones, the crown of will was created centuries ago by a Highborne sorcerer who was worried about the possibility of losing his mind to a magical mishap. The crown's purpose is to fortify its wearer's mind, shielding it from any form of controlling spell or enchantment. Any ongoing, mind-affecting effects afflicting the wearer are immediately ended when the crown is donned.[6] The crown is now in the possession of Mug'thol.[7]
