Yenki is the son of a fisherman and as a youth would compete for Yalia Sagewhisper with his friend Chinwa. However, Yalia, possessing wisdom beyond her young years, realized that their competition would not end, even after her hand had been. Fearing that such a competition would not end until one of them was dead and the other left in guilt, Yalia made the decision to leave Zouchin and years later when Yalia would return to the village, Yenki, who would be married with cubs of his own, would not recognize her.[1]
