WoWthing is a World of Warcraft fan site whose purpose is to assist players (especially altoholics) with tracking and managing various things across all characters on their account(s), such as gear, professions, instance lockouts, and much more. This is accomplished by downloading its addon on CurseForge, WoWthing Collector, and proceeding to upload the data to the website. There is also a very simple and light Windows-only desktop application, WoWthing Sync, that automates uploading should one tire of manually doing so on WoWthing's upload webpage.

Features

Home

An overall listing of all characters that exist on the associated WoW account is considered the default page. In general, it displays the character name, realm name, class and specialization, gold amount, and item level.

Characters

A more detailed display for a singular character similar to the offical WoW armory. The available sub-features currently are the paper doll, inventory items, professions (including % known recipes, Dragonflight knowledge points spent, etc.), and Shadowlands covenants (soulbind talents, renown, and specific activities relating to them).

Currencies

Shows all known currencies that exist in the game. They are grouped by expansion and specific activities (such as seasonal events or PvP).

Items

There are four main aspects to this feature.

  • Bags
Displays what sort of bags are being used by your characters. This can be particularly useful when deciding, for example, which character is most in need of a bag upgrade.
  • Equipped
Gives an overall view of all gear that is currently equipped by your characters. As with the WoW armory, it only displays for the character's current specialization.
  • Convertible
New with Dragonflight, this feature shows if a character has an eligible item that can be converted at the Revival Catalyst into a tier piece. Characters are grouped by class here.
  • Search
A search option if looking for a specific item. Offers some search filters such as whether to look in certain inventories only (bag or bank, etc.), group by character or item, include equipped items, and/or restrict to a certain item quality. (Note: Quality filter currently only allows one type at a time.)

Lockouts

Displays instance lockouts for each character.

Mythic+

Displays which characters have done which Mythic+ runs for a certain season and their score. (Note: It appears this only goes as far back as Battle for Azeroth Season 1.)

Professions

  • Overview
Displays professions and skill levels for each module (Classic, Outland, etc.). It can be filtered by profession.
  • Equipment
Due to Dragonflight changes, this has been added so you can know what your characters have equipped for their respective professions.
  • Recipes
Grouped by profession, it gives an overall view for recipes both known and unknown for each module. A recipe item, where applicable, will also be prefaced by a "bank building" icon which can scan the realm's auction house to see if it's being offered and at what price.
  • DF Knowledge
Displays if the character has obtained all the relevant zone treasures and vendor items that offer Knowledge Points.

Progress

Displays the following progression:

  • Zone storylines
  • Dragonriding races
  • World Events quests
  • Raid skips
  • Rewards with travel use effects
  • Shadowlands upgrades (e.g. Torghast, Pocopoc, etc.)

Reputations

Displays an overall view of character reputation by expansion.

Collections

Provides an extensive database of appearances, dragonriding, heirlooms, illusions, mounts, pets, and toys that have been obtained on the account. There are filters provided for rarity, expansion, armor type, weapon, and uncollected.

Journal

Serves the same function as the in-game Adventure Guide for instance/world boss loot. Besides the usual filters for expansion, class, armor, etc., there is also a setting for "completionist mode".

Sets

Displays an overall view by expansion for artwork sets such as raid, dungeon, PvP, open world content, and more.

Vendor

Provides an easy means of determining what, if anything, a user has purchased from vendors such as reputation quartermasters.

Zone Maps

Displays an in-game zone map with various markers for points-of-interest like gear vendors and instances which, when hovered over, provide basic information on completion % for collections and/or gear tokens. Comes with standard filter options.

Auctions

Browse the local auction house specifically for missing items such as appearances, pets, recipes, etc.

History

Displays a graph indicating the gold amount over time for characters' realm(s). It only goes as far back as one year, however.

Matrix

As of November 18, 2023, this feature is still under construction. It is not recommended at present that anyone attempt to use this, as it can cause the web page to lag out and necessitate closing the browser tab as a result.

Achievements

Provides an easily browsable means of combing through achievements online.

World Quests

Generates a visual overview of world quests that are active, by expansion, continent, and zone. Hovering over one will show which character(s) has or has not completed it (which is especially useful for world bosses).

Leaderboard

If feeling competitive or curious, a leaderboard exists to compare one's ranks with others on certain aspects of World of Warcraft such as mounts and whatnot. While anyone can browse through it regardless of registration, keep in mind that the pool of available data is limited to registered users who have opted-in.

Settings

The website settings are quite extensive and so will not be gone over in-depth here. Users are strongly encouraged to explore them all on the website page.

    • Language (still a work-in-progress and quite limited)
    • Change displayed user name. Default is a random hash of letters and numbers.
    • API Key, used in tangent with WoWthing Sync addon.

    • A user can elect to have their account data shared with the Leaderboard feature. This is disabled by default.
    • Want to share but do so anonymously? That is also an option.
  • Privacy
