Sylvanas Windrunner
- Warchief of the Horde
Sylvanas Windrunner is one of the Horde's most divisive figures, a secretive leader who inspires equal parts dread and awe in those she fights alongside.
Sylvanas was once the ranger-general of Silvermoon, a commander charged with defending the high elven kingdom of Quel'Thalas. Her skill as a leader was put to the test when the Lich King's undead Scourge attacked her nation. Though Sylvanas fought valiantly, she fell to the unholy invaders. The Scourge death knight Arthas Menethil ripped out the ranger-general's soul and transformed it into a banshee, a vengeful phantom forced to serve the Lich King.
A year later, Sylvanas regained her freedom. She was accompanied by many other undead who had broken away from the Lich King's control. Sylvanas dubbed these renegades the Forsaken, and she named herself their Banshee Queen. To secure a future for her followers, Sylvanas joined the Horde. She and her Forsaken eventually marched alongside their new allies in the invasion of Northrend, helping defeat the Lich King and sating their appetite for vengeance.
Sylvanas has continued protecting the Forsaken from any threat, at home or across the cosmos. Entrusted with the mantle of Warchief by a dying Vol’jin, she managed to rally the Horde to defeat the Legion in the Broken Isles and Argus.
The discovery of the mysterious material known as Azerite in Silithus has led Sylvanas once more down the path of war. Intent on preventing the Alliance from gaining control of this powerful substance, the Warchief struck first, leading the Horde’s assault on Darnassus and inflicting a grievous blow to show the Alliance exactly what is at stake.
